Alexandria Radio
Alexandria Radio ( is an Egyptian radio station based in Alexandria. Opening in 1954, it is considered the oldest regional radio station in the Arab world. On July 26 of that year, the Minister of National Guidance appointed Hafez Abdel Wahab as its founding director, putting him on air that same Monday at 2:00 PM. Notable figures The poet Mahmoud Al-Kamshushi contributed many works for the station until his death in 1971, including its opening song "احنا الشعب الحر" (“We Are the Free People”). He co-wrote scripted series with Abdel Wahab for the station, including ''في الامر جريمة'' (“Criminal Matters”) and ''برنامج حميدو'' (“The Hamido Show”), and was sole author of scripts for the annual “musical riddle” show '' Fawazeer Ramadan''. ''Al-Masry Al-Youm'' ( ', , meaning ''The Egyptian Today'') is an Egyptian privately owned daily newspaper that was first published in June 2004. It is published in Arabic as is its website, ''almasryalyoum.com''. An English version of the website was introduced in 2009 as the ''Al-masry Al-youm English Edition'', which later evolved into ''Egypt Independent''. It strives to be a full-service multimedia news organization for Egypt. Fawazeer Ramadan
''Fawazeer Ramadan'' (, alternately romanized as ''Fawazir'') was an Egyptian radio and television show that was broadcast throughout the month of Ramadan. The show was most successful from 1975 to 1995, and it featured riddles, acting scenes and elaborately choreographed dance routines. Viewers could solve the riddles at the end of the month to win prizes. The show was discontinued with the advent of larger selections of programming choices through services such as satellite television. There was also a feeling among conservatives that the program featured too much sensuality and dancing. Baligh Hamdi
Baligh Hamdi ( ; 7 October 1931 – 12 September 1993) was an Egyptian composer who created and composed many hit songs for several singers in the Arab world, especially during the 1960s and 1970s. He composed Warda's most famous songs, and the two got married for a long period. Early years Baligh Abdel Hamid Hamdi Morsi was born on 7 October 1931 in the Shubra district of Cairo. His father was a professor of physics at King Fuad I University (now Cairo University). He learned to play the violin at age nine, and the oud two or three years later. He took music lessons with a variety of teachers throughout childhood and teenage years. He became a professional musician in 1954 at age 22.
