Sous lieutenant Alexandre Albert Roger Bretillon was a French World War I flying ace credited with nine aerial victories. Early life Alexandre Albert Roger Bretillon was born 23 September 1895 in Curville. World War I Bretillon joined the French military on 19 December 1914; he was initially assigned to infantry duty. On 18 April 1915, he transferred to artillery. On 13 March 1916, he was detached for aviation training. He was awarded Military Pilot's Brevet No. 1122 on 25 June 1916. In August, he was promoted to enlisted Brigadier. On 1 December, he was stationed with Escadrille 79. On 17 March 1917, Bretillon scored his first win, downing a German Albatros Flugzeugwerke, Albatros. In May, he was advanced to Maréchal-des-logis. On 15 February 1918, he was wounded in action over La Fere. By 24 March, he had recovered, and scored his second win on the same day he was awarded the ''Médaille militaire''. Albatros Flugzeugwerke
Albatros Flugzeugwerke GmbH was a German aircraft manufacturer best known for supplying the German Luftstreitkräfte during World War I. The company was based in Adlershof, Johannisthal, Berlin, where it was founded by Walter Huth and Otto Wiener on December 20, 1909. The company (and its subsidiary, Ostdeutsche Albatros Werke (OAW)) produced many capable fighter aircraft, notably the Albatros D.III and Albatros D.V, both designed by Robert Thelen. The Albatros merged into Focke-Wulf in 1931. History The company was founded in Berlin-Johannisthal in late 1909 by Enno Walther Huth as the Albatros Werke AG. The first aircraft the company produced was a French Antoinette monoplane, which they built under licence. Commandant Maurice Albert Alfred Jean Arnoux (7 September 1895 – 6 June 1940) was a French World War I flying ace credited with five aerial victories. After the end of the First World War, he continued his aviation career during the 1930s as an air racer and aviation record setter until the Second World War. He returned to flying fighter planes during the early days of World War II, but was killed in action in 1940. World War I service On 19 December 1914, Arnoux was inducted for military service with the 2e Groupe d'Aviation. He was stationed on the Serbian front as a driver until February 1916. After being decorated by the Serbs, he was returned to France for pilot's training. On 23 May 1916, he was granted Military Pilot's Brevet No. 3539. Adjutant is a military appointment given to an Officer (armed forces), officer who assists the commanding officer with unit administration, mostly the management of “human resources” in an army unit. The term is used in French-speaking armed forces as a non-commissioned officer rank similar to a master sergeant or warrant officer but is not equivalent to the role or appointment of an adjutant. An adjutant general is commander of an army's administrative services. Brigadier ( ) is a military rank, the seniority of which depends on the country.
