Alexander Zhiroff
Alexander "Sasha" Zhiroff (born 13 April 1951 in Ishim, Soviet Union) is a Russian cellist whose performing career has included appearances as a soloist with orchestras in the United States, Russia, Cuba, recitals in major concert halls, and recordings as a soloist for BBC Scotland, Gostelradio (Russia), and EGREM (Cuba). In 1996 he became a member of Yanni's orchestra, performing at the Taj Mahal in India and the Forbidden City in China during the ''Tribute'' concert in 1997, and the corresponding tour for the next year, The ''Tribute 1998 World Tour'', the 2003 and 2004 ''Ethnicity'' world tours, as well as the 2005 ''Yanni Live! Forbidden City
The Forbidden City () is a palace complex in Dongcheng District, Beijing, China, at the center of the Imperial City of Beijing. It is surrounded by numerous opulent imperial gardens and temples including the Zhongshan Park, the sacrificial Imperial Ancestral Temple, the Beihai Park, and the Jingshan Park. It is officially administered by the Palace Museum. The Forbidden City was constructed from 1406 to 1420, and was the former Chinese imperial palace and winter residence of the Emperor of China from the Ming dynasty (since the Yongle Emperor) to the end of the Qing dynasty, between 1420 and 1924. ''Ethnicity'' is the eleventh studio album by Yanni, released on February 11, 2003 by Virgin Records. It peaked at #27 on Billboard's "Top Internet Albums" chart and at #27 on the " ''Billboard'' 200" chart in 2003. It also peaked at #1 on the "Top New Age Albums" chart in 2004. Background ''Ethnicity'' features greater use of vocals, percussion, and exotic rhythms, which were influenced by Yanni's period of travel during his hiatus between 1998 and 2000. ''Tribute'' is the second live album and third concert film by Greek keyboardist and songwriter Yanni, released in November 1997 on Virgin Records. It was recorded at the Taj Mahal, India in March 1997 and the Forbidden City, China, in May 1997, both featuring Yanni performing with a seven-piece band, choir, and 27-piece orchestra. ''Tribute'' went to No. 1 on the ''Billboard'' Top New Age Album chart and No. 21 on the ''Billboard'' 200. The concert film was released in December 1997. Taj Mahal
The Taj Mahal (; ) is an Islamic ivory-white marble mausoleum on the right bank of the river Yamuna in the Indian city of Agra. It was commissioned in 1631 by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan () to house the tomb of his favourite wife, Mumtaz Mahal; it also houses the tomb of Shah Jahan himself. The tomb is the centrepiece of a complex, which includes a mosque and a guest house, and is set in formal gardens bounded on three sides by a crenellated wall. Yiannis Chryssomallis ( el, Γιάννης Χρυσομάλλης; born November 14, 1954), known professionally as Yanni ( ), is a Greek-American composer, keyboardist, pianist, and music producer.
