Alexander Sacher Masoch Prize
The Alexander Sacher Masoch Prize is a literary award which is conferred by the Literaturhaus, Vienna. The prize, worth 7,000 euros, is to support young Austrian writers. It was created in 1994 by the widow of the writer (1901–1972) and was initially awarded every three years. Grazer Autorenversammlung
The Grazer Autorinnen Autorenversammlung (GAV) was founded under the name of ''Grazer Autorenversammlung'' in March 1973 and is one of the two major Austrian writers' association (besides the Austrian PEN). H. C. Artmann was its first president. Other writers who contributed to the foundation of the association, were Friedrich Achleitner, Wolfgang Bauer, Georg Bydlinski, Barbara Frischmuth, Peter Handke, Ernst Jandl, Alfred Kolleritsch, Friederike Mayröcker, Reinhard Priessnitz, Peter Rosei, Gerhard Roth, Gerhard Rühm, Michael Scharang, and Oswald Wiener. In the beginning, the GAV was located in Graz, but in 1975 its secretariat moved to Vienna, which also now became the location for meetings of its executive committee. Kathrin Röggla
Kathrin Röggla (born 1971) is an Austrian writer, essayist and playwright. She was born in Salzburg, and lives in Berlin since 1992. She has written numerous prose works, including essays, dramas and radio plays. She has won a long range of awards for her literary works. In May 2012 she was elected as a member of the Academy of Arts, Berlin. And in November 2015 she got also elected as member of the national Deutsche Akademie für Sprache und Dichtung in Darmstadt. Röggla is married with the theater director, actor and translator Leopold von Verschuer and mother of a son. Elfriede Czurda
Elfriede Czurda (born 25 April 1946) is an Austrian poet, writer and translator. Life Czurda was born in Wels in 1946. She studied archaeology and Art History at the University of Saltzburg. She completed her education at the University Paris in 1973 with a doctorate and began writing the following year. By 1976 she was a full-time freelance writer. Her first book ''ein griff'' was published in 1978. She lived in Berlin and Vienna. The first two novels of her trilogy which she began in 1991 have attracted academic interest as they together with work by fellow Austrian Lilian Faschinger are said to show an interest in violence created by women. Her opening novel of the trilogy, ''Die Giftmörderinnen'', is told in stylisised speech by the central figure who is in jail having poisoned her husband assisted by her lover and neighbour, Erika. Robert Menasse
Robert Menasse (born 21 June 1954) is an Austrian writer. Biography Menasse was born in Vienna. As an undergraduate, he studied German studies, philosophy and political science in Vienna, Salzburg and Messina. In 1980 he completed his PhD thesis "Der Typus des Außenseiters im Literaturbetrieb. Am Beispiel Hermann Schürrer" ("The outsider phenotype within literature"). Between 1981 and 1988 Menasse worked as a junior lecturer at the Institute of Literature Theory at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. He has been working as a freelance publicist, columnist and translator of novels from Portuguese into German ever since. His first novel ''Sinnliche Gewissheit'', published in 1988, is a semi-autobiographical tale of Austrians living in exile in Brazil.
