Alexander Anatolyevich Kovchan ( uk, Олександр Анатолійович Ковчан, ''Oleksandr Anatoliyovych Kovchan''; born 21 October 1983) is a Ukrainian chess Grandmaster (2002). Biography Kovchan played for Ukraine in the 1995 Children's Chess Olympiad. In 2011, he tied for 2nd–5th with Tigran Gharamian, Boris Grachev and Ante Brkić in the Open Master Tournament in Biel. In December 2011, he tied for 1st–2nd with Robert Hess in the Groningen Chess Festival and in the same tournament of the following year, he tied for 1st–3rd with Zaven Andriasian and Sipke Ernst, earning him an invitation to the 75th Tata Steel Chess Tournament in January 2013. Robert Lee Hess (born December 19, 1991) is an American chess player who received the FIDE title of Grandmaster (chess), Grandmaster (GM) in 2009. Wijk aan Zee ( literally ''Neighborhood at Sea'') is a village on the coast of the North Sea in the municipality of Beverwijk, the province of North Holland of the Netherlands. Tata Steel Chess Tournament
The Tata Steel Chess Tournament is an annual chess tournament held in January in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. It was called the Hoogovens Tournament from its creation in 1938 until the sponsor Koninklijke Hoogovens merged with British Steel to form the Corus Group in 1999, after which the tournament was called the Corus Chess Tournament. Corus Group became Tata Steel Europe in 2007. Despite the name changes, the series is numbered sequentially from its Hoogovens beginnings; for example, the 2011 event was referred to as the 73rd Tata Steel Chess Tournament. Top grandmasters compete in the tournament, but regular club players are welcome to play as well. Sipke Ernst (born 8 January 1979), is a Dutch chess Grandmaster, Dutch Chess Championship medalist, and FIDE Trainer. Biography In the 2000s, Sipke Ernst was one of the leading Dutch chess players. He won four medals in the Dutch Chess Championship: a silver medal in 2017, and three bronze medals in 2010, 2011, and 2014, respectively. Zaven Andriasian (sometimes transliterated as Andriasyan; hy, Զավեն Անդրիասյան; born March 11, 1989, in Yerevan) is an Armenian chess Grandmaster and former World Junior Chess Champion. Chess career He won the 2005 European Youth Chess Championship for under-16 and the 2006 World Junior Chess Championship. The latter victory automatically earned him the title of Grandmaster (GM).
