Alexander George Russell
General Lord Alexander George Russell (16 September 1821 – 10 January 1907) was a British Army general. He served during the Siege of Sevastapol in the Crimean War. Background Russell was born at Woburn Abbey, Bedfordshire, the seventh son of John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford and his second wife, Lady Georgina (or Georgiana) Gordon, daughter of Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon, although it has been claimed that Russell's father was actually the Victorian painter Sir Edwin Landseer, who conducted a lengthy affair with the Duchess of Bedford. He was the half-brother of Francis Russell, 7th Duke of Bedford, Lord George Russell and Prime Minister John Russell, 1st Earl Russell and the full brother of Lord Edward Russell and Lord Charles Russell. Woburn, Bedfordshire
Woburn (, meaning twisted or crooked stream) is a village and civil parishes in England, civil parish in Bedfordshire, England, about southeast of Milton Keynes and south of junction 13 of the M1 motorway. At the 2011 census, it had a population of 933. History Woburn was first recorded as a hamlet in 969 and is listed in the Domesday Book of 1086. It is best known as the location of Woburn Abbey (a stately home) and Woburn Safari Park. The abbey was founded by Cistercian monks in 1145 and granted to the first Earl of Bedford in 1538 after the dissolution of the monasteries. The town may have been called "Woburne Chapell" in medieval times, in order to distinguish it from the abbey. Woburn has been burned down and rebuilt three times. Lord Charles Russell
Lord Charles James Fox Russell (10 February 1807 – 29 June 1894), was a British soldier and Whig politician. Background Russell was the third son of John Russell, 6th Duke of Bedford, by his second wife Lady Georgiana, daughter of Alexander Gordon, 4th Duke of Gordon. Francis Russell, 7th Duke of Bedford, Lord George Russell and John Russell, 1st Earl Russell were his elder half-brothers and Lord Edward Russell and Lord Alexander Russell his full brothers. Cricket An amateur cricketer, Russell played first-class cricket for the Marylebone Cricket Club between 1833 and 1846. Career Russell was a Lieutenant-Colonel in both the 52nd Regiment and the Royal Horse Guards. Monreith
Monreith ( ; ) is a small seaside village in the Machars, in the historical county of Wigtownshire, Scotland. A ruined church near Monreith is called "Kirkmaiden-in-Fernis" and was dedicated to St Medan. The chancel was rebuilt as a mausoleum for the Maxwell family of nearby Monreith House and in which is buried Sir Herbert Maxwell, 7th Baronet, Sir Herbert Maxwell. Cosmo George Gordon, 3rd Duke of Gordon KT (27 April 1720 – 5 August 1752), styled Marquess of Huntly until 1728, was a Scottish peer. Lieutenant-General Willem Anne van Keppel, 2nd Earl of Albemarle (5 June 1702 – 22 December 1754) was a British Army officer, diplomat, courtier and colonial administrator. He held various roles in the household of George II of Great Britain, who was a personal friend, participated in negotiations to end the 1718 to 1720 War of the Quadruple Alliance and was British ambassador to France from 1748 to 1754. During the 1740 to 1748 War of the Austrian Succession, he commanded troops in Flanders and was transferred to Scotland following the outbreak of the Jacobite rising of 1745. After the Battle of Culloden, he was appointed Commander-in-Chief, Scotland before returning to Flanders in 1747. Despite his many offices and inheriting a large fortune, he was known as the "Spendthrift Earl" and died in 1754 leaving his family nothing but debts. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath is a British order of chivalry founded by King George I of Great Britain, George I on 18 May 1725.
