Alexander Fletcher (British Politician)
Sir Alexander MacPherson Fletcher (26 August 1929 – 18 September 1989), sometimes known as Alex Fletcher, was a British Conservative Party politician. Life He was born in Greenock in western Scotland. He was married to Christine Anne Buchanan (1926-2008). He was a company director and a chartered accountant and served as a member of East Kilbride Development Corporation from 1971 to 1973. He was also an Elder of the Church of Scotland. Political career Fletcher first stood for Parliament in the 1970 General Election at West Renfrewshire. He was elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Edinburgh North at a by-election in 1973. It was noted in an editorial in the following day's ''The Glasgow Herald'' that Fletcher's win came despite this being a time of "unpopularity of the Government over prices", and Fletcher's result was contrasted favourably with the surprise defeat of the Labour candidate in the same day's by-election in Glasgow Govan. Alexander Fletcher (minister)
Alexander Fletcher (1787–1860), ''the Children's Friend'', was a Scottish kirk minister, and later an Independent (Congregational) divine in England. Author of numerous devotional works, and founder of the Finsbury Chapel in London, he was widely acknowledged as the pioneer of preaching to audiences of children and attracting large crowds of young people to nonconformist chapels through specially designed events and services as well as through Sunday schools. He is also noted for his support of missionary work, and for the abolition of slavery in the United States. Early life Fletcher was educated at the Grammar School at Stirling, then at Glasgow University where he graduated M.A. He was a student at the Divinity Hall under George Lawson at Selkirk, from 1802. Alexandra Fletcher (born 8 July 1976) is an English actress, known for her roles as Jacqui Dixon in '' Brookside'' and Diane Hutchinson in ''Hollyoaks''. Career Fletcher joined ''Brookside'' in 1990, and played the role of Jacqui Dixon until the series ended in 2003. In addition to her role in ''Brookside'', she has made a number of other television appearances, both in acting and presenting roles. These include parts in '' Doctors'' and '' MIT: Murder Investigation Team'', and a guest presenting role on the chat show '' Loose Women''. Alex Samuel Fletcher (born 30 April 1999) is an English semi-professional footballer who is currently plays as a forward for Tiverton Town on loan from Weston-super-Mare. Career Fletcher, as an academy player, made his first team debut at home in the FA Cup in a 0–0 draw with Newport County, on as a 79th-minute substitute for Craig Tanner.
