Alex Lightbody
Alex Lightbody (born 1966) is an international Bowls, lawn bowler, who has represented Ireland (combined) and Northern Ireland at international level. Bowls career Lightbody won the Irish National Bowls Championships singles in 1992. Trailing in the final against Gary McCloy 14–9, he came back to secure a 21–15 victory. In doing so he became the first Bangor bowler since William Tate (bowls), Billy Tate to win the title. The 1992 Irish title qualified him for the 1993 British Isles Bowls Championships and he subsequently won the singles held in Worthing becoming the first Irish winner since David Corkill in 1980. Newtownards (; ) is a town in County Down, Northern Ireland. It lies at the most northern tip of Strangford Lough, 10 miles (16 km) east of Belfast, on the Ards Peninsula. County Down

British Isles Bowls Championships
The British Isles Bowls Championships is a tournament held between the champions of their respective nations, from England, Scotland, Wales, a combined Ireland, and more recently Guernsey and Jersey. It was first held in 1960 although the triples event did not start until 1977. The women's events started in June 1972, with the triples starting in 1982. The first women's singles winner was Lilian Nicholas of Wales. The first men's singles winner was Kenneth Coulson of England and the legendary David Bryant MBE holds the record for the most singles titles with four. The tournament is held the year after each of the National champions have been crowned. Irish National Bowls Championships
The Irish National Bowls Championships combines Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. Traditionally, the game was played mainly in Northern Ireland, but the Kenilworth Bowling Club of Dublin joined the Irish Bowls Association in 1906, which prompted the merger into one team. With the exception of the Commonwealth Games, players continue to represent a combined Ireland team at all major international championships. Bowls
Bowls, also known as lawn bowls or lawn bowling, is a sport in which players try to roll their ball (called a bowl) closest to a smaller ball (known as a "jack" or sometimes a "kitty"). The bowls are shaped (biased), so that they follow a curved path when being rolled. The game is played either in teams or one against one. The game was first played in the 13th century. Gary McCloy
Gary Samuel McCloy (born 28 May 1969) is an Irish international lawn and indoor bowler. Bowls career He won a bronze medal in the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship, fours at the 2000 World Outdoor Bowls Championship in Johannesburg. He was also part of the fours team that secured the gold medal for Northern Ireland at the 1998 Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the other members were Ian McClure (bowls), Ian McClure, Martin McHugh (bowls), Martin McHugh and Neil Booth. In 2007 he won the pairs silver medal at the Atlantic Bowls Championships. He also won the 1994 and 2019 Irish National Bowls Championships singles title. William Tate (bowls)
William Tate (1918–1977) was an Irish international lawn bowler. Bowls career He won a bronze medal in the fours, at the 1970 British Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh; alongside John Higgins, Harold Stevenson and Edward Gordon. Four years later, he represented Northern Ireland for a second successive Commonwealth Games in 1974. He was also part of the fours team that missed out on a medal at the 1972 World Outdoor Bowls Championship, when a combined Ireland team finished in fourth place in the fours competition. David Corkill
David Corkill (born 15 February 1960) is a former outdoor international lawn and current indoor bowler and current sports commentator. Bowls career David, from Belfast in Northern Ireland, started bowling at an early age in Tullycarnet Park where he played for Sandown Park. He joined the Knock outdoor club and won the Irish National Bowls Championships Fours title in 1977 and the singles title in 1980 and 1988. He also won the singles at the British Isles Bowls Championships in 1981. He represented Northern Ireland at the 1982 Commonwealth Games and 1990 Commonwealth Games and the combined Irish team at the World Bowls Championships.
