Alex Crognale
Alex Crognale (born August 27, 1994) is an American professional soccer player who plays as a defender for USL Championship club Birmingham Legion. Career Youth and college Born in Columbus, Ohio, Crognale is a product of the youth academy of Columbus Crew SC, before playing four years of college soccer at the University of Maryland between 2013 and 2016. In 2016, Crognale captained the Terrapins to a third straight Big Ten tourney title, and was named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He was also chosen for the First-Team All-American in 2016 Columbus Crew SC On December 13, 2016 it was announced that Crognale had signed a homegrown contract with Columbus Crew SC of Major League Soccer. The CONCACAF Champions League, known officially as the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League for sponsorship reasons, is an annual continental club football competition organized by CONCACAF. The tournament is contested by clubs from North America, Central America, and the Caribbean. Birmingham Legion FC is an American professional soccer club based in Birmingham, Alabama, that competes in the USL Championship, the second division of American soccer. The team was established in August 2013 and played under the name Birmingham Hammers until 2018 and began their first professional season as Legion FC on March 10, 2019. History On August 9, 2017, the United Soccer League (now known as USL Championship), the Division II sanctioned league by the United States Soccer Federation, granted a team for Birmingham to begin play in the 2019 season. The USL Championship (USLC) is a professional men's soccer league in the United States that began its inaugural season in 2011. The USL is sanctioned by the United States Soccer Federation (U.S. Soccer) as a Division II league since 2017, placing it under Major League Soccer (Division I) in the hierarchy. The USL is headquartered in Tampa, Florida. 2018 Orange County SC Season
The 2018 Orange County SC season was the club's eighth season of existence, and their eighth consecutive season in the United Soccer League, the second tier of American soccer. Orange County also competed in the U.S. Open Cup. The season covered the period from October 14, 2017, to the beginning of the 2019 USL season. OCSC won the Western Conference in the regular season, finishing one point ahead of runners-up Sacramento Republic. It marked the second time in club history that Orange County had topped the conference, after 2015. However, the club would be knocked out in the conference finals by eventual USL Cup runners-up Phoenix Rising.
