Leticia Jorge
Ana Guevara Pose (born 1980) and Leticia Jorge Romero (born 1981) are Uruguayan film directors and screenwriters. They have collaborated on a number of films, including the feature films ''Tanta agua'' ("So Much Water") (2013), ''Alelí'' (2019), and ''Agarrame fuerte'' ("Don't You Let Me Go") (2024). Both women were born in Montevideo, Montevideo, Uruguay. They met and began collaborating while studying at the Catholic University of Uruguay. Their first feature film, ''Tanta agua'' ("So Much Water") (2013), was written and directed by both women. The film features a chiropractor (Nestor Guzzini) attempting to bond with his two children (Malu Chouza and Joaquin Castiglioni) during a rainy vacation. Uruguay has submitted films for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film regularly since 2001. The award is handed out annually by the United States Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non- English dialogue. Uruguay, represented by Cinemateca Uruguaya, submitted drama '' A Place in the World'' to AMPAS in the fall of 1992. On 3 December 1992, AMPAS included the film on its list of official submissions and it was screened alongside 32 other films for AMPAS' Foreign Language Film Committee. On 17 February 1993, it was announced that the film had been nominated for an Oscar, representing Uruguay. This is a list of submissions to the 93rd Academy Awards for the Best International Feature Film. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The International Feature Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The category was previously called the Best Foreign Language Film, but this was changed in April 2019 to Best International Feature Film, after the Academy deemed the word "Foreign" to be outdated. Iris Fariña Romano (17 August 1930 – 22 September 2023), better known by her stage name Cristina Morán, was a Uruguayan journalist, radio and television personality and actress. She was a notable pioneer in the nascent television of her country, back in the 1950s, at Channel 10. Her career spanned 75 years.
