Aleksejs Širokovs
Aleksejs Širokovs (born 20 February 1981) is a Latvian professional ice hockey player currently playing for Dresdner Eislöwen of the DEL2. Most of his professional playing career Širokovs spent in Latvian Hockey League's club HK Liepājas Metalurgs, twice becoming Latvia's champion. From 2004 until 2007 Širokovs played in several Russian Superleague and Russian Major League clubs, but played the 2007-08 season in Belarusian Extraliga club Metallurg Zhlobin. World Championship Junior Hockey
The IIHF World Junior Championship (WJC), sometimes referred to as World Juniors, is an annual event organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) for national under-20 ice hockey teams from around the world. It is traditionally held in late December, ending in early January (beginning from Boxing Day to January 5). The tournament usually attracts the top hockey players in this age category. Latvian National Ice Hockey Team
The Latvian men's national ice hockey team represents Latvia in international ice hockey. The team is ranked 10th in the world by International Ice Hockey Federation, IIHF as of 2023. The team is controlled by the Latvian Ice Hockey Federation. Their best ever finish at the World Championships was in 2023, when they won the bronze medal. The Belarusian Extraleague, abbreviated BHL, also known as the BETERA Extraleague for sponsorship reasons, or known as the Belarusian Open Championship, (), officially formed in 2006, is the top ice hockey league in Belarus. In its past, it has switched several times between being and not being an open league (in reference to allowing foreign teams), but for the 2008–2009 season, the Belarusian Ice Hockey Association decided to open the Belarusian Extraleague, the Belarusian Premier League and the Belarusian junior leagues.
