The governor of Krasnoyarsk Krai (russian: Губернатор Красноярского края) heads the executive branch in Krasnoyarsk Krai, a federal subject of Russia. History of office On 29 December 1991 the president of Russia Boris Yeltsin appointed Arkady Veprev as the head of Krasnoyarsk Krai Administration. Veprev, a 64-year old former sovkhoz chairman, who was hostile to privatization, went on a conflict with local legislature and was forced to resign less than 13 months after his appointment. Veprev named economist Valery Zubov as his successor. In April 1993 Zubov was elected governor. Five years later, he lost to General Alexander Lebed, who received about 60% of the vote in the runoff. After Lebed died in a helicopter crash in April 2002, the early election was set up for 8 September. Alexander Khloponin, governor of Taymyr, won that campaign. Alexander Gennadyevich Khloponin (russian: link=no, Алекса́ндр Генна́дьевич Хлопо́нин; born March 6, 1965) is a Russian politician. Khloponin served Governor of Krasnoyarsk Krai, a ''krai'' located in Siberia, from October 2002 to January 2010. From 2010 to 2018, Khlonopin served as Deputy Prime Minister of Russia. Taymyr Dolgano-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (russian: Таймы́рский Долга́но-Не́нецкий автоно́мный о́круг, '; Enets: Таймыр Оша-Дюрак район, Nenets: Таймыр Долганы-Ненэцие район), was a federal subject of Russia (an autonomous okrug of Krasnoyarsk Krai), the northernmost in Siberian Russia (and thus North Asia). 2002 Russian Gubernatorial Elections
Gubernatorial elections in 2002 took place in twelve regions of the Russian Federation. Race summary Krasnoyarsk Krai Background From June 1998, Alexander Lebed was the governor of Krasnoyarsk Krai. On 22 April 2002 he died in a helicopter crash. Nikolay Ashlapov became interim governor until the new gubernatorial elections were held in September 2002. A total of 32 people submitted documents, 16 of them were registered. Later, the Head of Khakassia and the brother of the late governor, Alexei Lebed, withdrew and another candidate was removed from the ballot by the election authorities.
