Alec McDonald (politician)
Alexander McDonald (12 June 1878 – 9 September 1956) was an Australian politician. He was born in Ararat to farmer Hugh McDonald and Annie Poison. He attended state school and became a grazier at Chrocan near Mount Ararat. In 1913 he married Jemima Bain, with whom he had a son; around 1950 he married Mary Cairns Forsyth. He served on Ararat Shire Council from 1924 to 1955, with two terms as president (1928–29, 1937–38). In 1935 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Country Party member for Stawell and Ararat. He served until 1945, when his seat was abolished and he was defeated contesting Ripon. McDonald moved to Ballarat Ballarat ( ) () is a city in the Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. Ararat () is a town in the Central Highlands (Victoria), Central Highlands region in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia, about west of Melbourne, on the Western Highway, Victoria, Western Highway on the eastern slopes of the Ararat Hills and Cemetery Creek valley between Victoria's Western District (Victoria), Western District and the Wimmera. The Shire of Ararat was a local government area about west-northwest of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1861 until 1994. The shire did not cover the town of Ararat, which was managed by a separate local government authority. Ballarat ( ) () is a city in the Central Highlands (Victoria), Central Highlands of Victoria, Australia. At the 2021 Australian census, 2021 census, Ballarat had a population of 111,973, making it the third-largest urban inland city in Australia and the third-largest city in Victoria. Richard Toutcher
Richard Frederick Toutcher (27 May 1861 – 6 September 1941) was an Australian politician. He was born in Maryborough, Victoria, Maryborough to Charles and Ellen Toutcher and attended the local grammar school. He became a civil servant in the Postal Department, and was active in the campaign for Federation of Australia, Federation. Considered a Alfred Deakin, Deakinite Liberal, he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly for Electoral district of Ararat, Ararat in 1897, transferring to Electoral district of Stawell and Ararat, Stawell and Ararat in 1904. He was Minister of Public Instruction (Victoria), Minister of Public Instruction and Minister of Forests, Forests from April to July 1924. He continued in the Assembly until 1935, serving as a member of the Nationalist Party of Australia, Nationalist and United Australia Party, United Australia parties.
