Alberto Orlando
Alberto Orlando (; born 27 September 1938) is an Italian former footballer who played at both professional and international levels as a forward. Although not gifted with the best technical ability, he was a fast, physical, energetic, opportunistic, and powerful player, who was good in the air; he often played on the wing or through the centre of the pitch. Club career Born in Rome, Orlando played for Roma, Messina (briefly on a season loan from Roma), Fiorentina, Torino, Napoli and SPAL 1907 throughout his career. He is mostly remembered for his seven-year club career with Roma, the team with which he won the 1960–61 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, and the 1963–64 Coppa Italia, forming a formidable partnership with Giampaolo Menichelli. In total, he managed 142 Serie A appearances and 34 goals in Serie A with Roma. Mitropa Cup
The Mitropa Cup, officially called the La Coupe de l'Europe Centrale or Central European Cup, was one of the first international major European football cups for club sides. It was conducted among the successor states of the former Austria-Hungary. After World War II in 1951 a replacement tournament named ''Zentropa Cup'' was held, but just for one season, the Mitropa Cup name was revived, and again in 1958 the name of the tournament changed to ''Danube Cup'' but only for one season. The Inter-Cities Fairs Cup, sometimes referred to as the European Fairs Cup, Fairs Cities' Cup, or simply as the Fairs Cup, was a European football competition played between 1955 and 1971. It is often considered the predecessor to the UEFA Cup (now the UEFA Europa League). The competition was the idea of FIFA vice-president and executive committee member Ernst Thommen, Italian Football Federation president and FIFA executive committee member Ottorino Barassi, and the English Football Association general secretary and president of FIFA from 1961 to 1974, Stanley Rous. As the name suggests, the competition was set up to promote international trade fairs. The 1964 European Nations' Cup qualifying tournament was a football competition that was played from June 1962 to April 1964 to determine the four UEFA member men's national teams which would participate in the 1964 European Nations' Cup final tournament. Qualified teams Format The qualification was a knockout tournament where the teams would play a two-legged tie on a home-and-away basis. If the aggregate scores were level at the end of the tie, a third leg was played at a neutral venue to decide the winners. It consisted of a preliminary round, a round of 16, and a quarter-final round. The four quarter-final winners would qualify for the tournament proper; one of those four countries would then be chosen to host it.
