Alberta Centennial Medal
The Alberta Centennial Medal is a commemorative medal celebrating Alberta's first 100 years as a province of Canada. History In 2005, the ''Alberta Centennial Medal Act'' established the Alberta Centennial Medal. Purpose The ''Alberta Centennial Medal Act'' established a process to award medals to outstanding Albertans who had made a significant contribution to society and to honour their contributions. Eligibility Eligibility for the medal was restricted to living men, women and youth who made significant contributions to their fellow citizens, their community and to Alberta, and were Canadian citizens that had resided in Alberta. Approximately 8,000 medals were awarded to outstanding Albertans. Representatives from provincial organizations, governments and other groups were asked to make the nominations. Lieutenant Governor Of Alberta
The lieutenant governor of Alberta () is the representative in Alberta of the monarch. The lieutenant governor is appointed in the same manner as the other provincial viceroys in Canada and is similarly tasked with carrying out most of the monarch's constitutional and ceremonial duties. Donald Ethell
Donald Stewart Ethell (born July 23, 1937) is a retired Canadian Army colonel and was the 17th lieutenant governor of Alberta from 2010 to 2015. Career Ethell was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1937, the son of a nurse and a navy chief petty officer. He enlisted in the Canadian Army in 1955 after being rejected by the Navy and rejected from the Air Force. Ethell enlisted as a rifleman in the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada at the age of 17 and underwent basic training at the Currie Barracks in Calgary. He served in West Germany during the Cold War and rebadged to Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in 1970 when the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada was removed from regular army service. He rose through the non-commissioned officer ranks to warrant officer until he was commissioned as an officer in 1972. Joseph Pierre Julien St-Amand is a retired Royal Canadian Air Force Lieutenant-General. St-Amand served as deputy commander of North American Aerospace Defense Command and led its Canadian Element between 2015 and 2018. He previously commanded 441 Tactical Fighter Squadron, 4 Wing, and 1 Canadian Air Division, and was SHAPE Director of Strategic Planning between 2010 and 2011.
