Albert Bogen
Albert Bogen (born Albert Bógathy; October 31, 1882 – July 14, 1961) was a Fencing, fencer who competed for Austria-Hungary at the 1912 Summer Olympics and for Hungary at the 1928 Summer Olympics. Bogen was Jewish and was born in Kikinda, Austria-Hungary. His daughter was Hungarian fencer Erna Bogen-Bogáti, who won a bronze medal in women's individual foil at the 1932 Summer Olympics and was the wife of Hungarian fencer Aladár Gerevich who won gold medals in sabre in six Olympics and mother of Olympic medalist Pál Gerevich who won two Olympic bronze medals in team sabre. He was part of the Austrian Fencing at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's team sabre, sabre team, which won the silver medal. After qualifying for the Fencing at the 1912 Summer Olympics – Men's sabre, individual sabre quarterfinals, he did not compete in this stage. The history of the Jews in Serbia is some two thousand years old. The Jews first arrived in the region during Roman times. The Jewish communities of the Balkans remained small until the late 15th century, when Jews fleeing the Spanish and Portuguese Inquisitions found refuge in the Ottoman Empire, Ottoman-ruled areas, including Serbia. The community flourished and reached a peak of 33,000, of whom almost 90% were living in Belgrade and Vojvodina, before World War II. About two-thirds of Serbian Jews were murdered in The Holocaust. After the war, most of the remaining Jewish Serbian population emigrated, chiefly to Israel. In the 2011 census, only 787 people declared themselves as Jewish.
