Eric Powell (born March 3, 1975) is an American comic book writer/artist, best known as the creator of ''The Goon''. Career Powell has written and provided artwork for Dark Horse, DC Comics and Marvel Comics, but is most regarded for his original series ''The Goon'', which debuted from the small publisher Avatar Press. The Goon
''The Goon'' is a comic book series written and drawn by Eric Powell. The series mixes both a comical and violent atmosphere with a supernatural slant, which pit the titular character against undead creatures/zombies, ghosts, ghouls, mutants, skunk-apes with an unnatural hunger for pies, giant squids, mob/gang leaders, extra-dimensional aliens, mad scientists and robots. Publication history An early prototype of ''The Goon'' was first published in 1995, in a book called ''Best Cellars #1'' from Out of the Cellar Comics. This prototype was called ''Monster Boy'', and the story was written and illustrated by Eric Powell. ''The Goon'' debuted in Avatar Illustrated (June 1998, Avatar Press) in a 1-page Preview, which is the true first cameo appearance of the character. Avatar Press is an independent American comic book publisher founded in 1996 by William A. Christensen, and based in Rantoul, Illinois. Harold Schechter
Harold Schechter (born June 28, 1948) is an American true crime writer who specializes in serial killers. He is a Professor Emeritus at Queens College, City University of New York where he taught classes in American literature and myth criticism for forty-two years. Schechter's essays have appeared in numerous publications including ''The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Los Angeles Times'', and the ''International Herald Tribune''. He is the editor of the Library of America volume, ''True Crime: An American Anthology''. His newest book, published in September 2023, is '' Murderabilia: A History of Crime in 100 Objects.'' Ed Gein
Edward Theodore Gein ( ; August 27, 1906 – July 26, 1984), also known as "the Butcher of Plainfield" or "the Plainfield Ghoul", was an American murderer, suspected serial killer and Body snatching, body snatcher. The Dark Horse Book Of The Dead
''The Dark Horse Book of...'' was the banner title given to a series of four Dark Horse Comics one-shot hardcover comic book horror anthologies edited by Scott Allie and featuring the work of Mike Mignola and others. In 2017 Dark Horse collected all four volumes together in ''The Dark Horse Book of Horror''. Volumes ''The Dark Horse Book of Hauntings'' This first volume was published on August 27, 2003 and featured Mike Mignola's only new ''Hellboy'' story for that year as well as a new ''Devil's Footprints'' story, a Victorian ghost story illustrated by Gary Gianni, and an interview with real-life séance medium L.L. Kurt Busiek
Kurt Busiek ( ; born September 16, 1960) is an American comic book writer. His work includes the '' Marvels'' limited series, his own series titled '' Astro City'', a four-year run on '' The Avengers, Thunderbolts,'' and ''Superman.'' Early life Busiek was born in Boston. He grew up in various towns in the Boston area, including Lexington where he befriended future comic book creator Scott McCloud. Busiek did not read comics as a youngster, as his parents disapproved of them. He began to regularly read them around the age of 14, when he picked up a copy of '' Daredevil'' #120 (April 1975).
