The ''Albany Advertiser'', also published as the ''Australian Advertiser'' and the ''Albany Advertiser and Plantagenet and Denmark Post'', is a biweekly English language newspaper published for Albany and the Great Southern region in Western Australia. First published in 1888 as the ''Albany Advertiser'', the paper is still in circulation. The paper is the oldest continuous-running non-metropolitan newspaper in Western Australia. The paper is printed twice weekly, on Tuesday and Thursday, and distributed to towns through the Great Southern region including Albany, Cranbrook, Mount Barker, Jerramungup, Ravensthorpe, Katanning and Walpole. The office of the newspaper is called ''Newspaper House'' and is located in the main street York Street, Albany. The Australian National University (ANU) is a public university, public research university and member of the Group of Eight (Australian universities), Group of Eight, located in Canberra, the capital of Australia. Herdsman, Western Australia
Herdsman is the suburb of Perth, Western Australia where Herdsman Lake and the surrounding Herdsman Lake Regional Park are situated. Its local government area is the City of Stirling. In the earlier days of settlement, cattle were raised near the lake area. In 1927, celebrations were held to commemorate the centenary of the founding of Albany, Western Australia. The 1827 settlement in Albany was the first British settlement in Western Australia, preceding the Swan River Colony by two years. The Albany community and authorities were in direct conflict with the Western Australian government about the celebration and its proximity to the state centenary of 1929 (commemorating the founding of the state capital Perth), both before the centenary and after. The '' Western Mail'' celebrated with a special issue. Other regional newspapers also acknowledged Albany's founding and difference from the state centenary, not all necessarily complimentarily. Stirling Terrace, Albany
Stirling Terrace, Albany is a street in the centre of Albany, Western Australia adjoining York Street, Albany, York Street. As a historic street and part of a historic precinct it has a number of listed heritage buildings that look out over the Princess Royal Harbour, Albany Harbour, including Argyle House. Stirling Terrace has appeared on maps of the town since 1834 and is named after James Stirling (Royal Navy officer), James Stirling, the first Governor of Western Australia. The 1835 Hillman survey plan established the road as the prime location in the town, with a variety of social, commercial, leisure, institutional and service functions.
