Alassio (Ligurian: Arasce or Arasci) is a ''comune'' (municipality) in the province of Savona situated in the western coast of Liguria, Northern Italy, approximately from the French border. Alassio is known for its natural and scenic views. The town centre is crossed by a pedestrianised cobbled road known as the Budello. The town has sandy beaches, blue sea and many bars and restaurants on the sea front. Alassio has also a pier known as "Molo di Alassio" or "Pontile Bestoso" which offers views of the town. The town is famous for its " Muretto di Alassio", a wall with signatures onto coloured ceramic tiles. Alassio is situated on the Riviera di Ponente coast, and it has a small tourist port (porticciolo) named "Luca Ferrari". Alassio Wall
The Alassio wall (Italian: "''Muretto di Alassio''") is a "Walk of Fame"-style monument in the town of Alassio, Italy. It consists of a wall near the beach decorated with ceramic tiles signed by many well-known Italian and international people. Description Between 1951 and 1953, the Italian painter Mario Berrino wanted to decorate the empty wall near his coffee shop. At the time, his cafè was attended by some famous international artist, like Ernest Hemingway. When Berrino asked Hemingway about the idea, he was enthusiastic. A beauty fashion show called "Miss muretto" took place from 1953 to 2013, contributing to launch Italian stars such as Simona Ventura. Starting in 2013, the American artist Sandra Cache started to decorate a new wall, near to the original one, with plates depicting pets, especially dogs and guide dogs. ''In the South (Alassio)'', Op. 50, is a concert overture composed by Edward Elgar during a family holiday in Italy in the winter of 1903 to 1904. He was working on a symphony, but the local atmosphere inspired him instead to write what some have seen as a tone poem, with an Italian flavour. At about 20 minutes' duration it was the composer's longest sustained orchestral piece to that time. The work was premiered in London in 1904. It is less often heard in concert than some other Elgar pieces, but has received many recordings. Background and first performance After years of struggle, by 1903 Elgar had become well known. Italian Riviera
The Italian Riviera or Ligurian Riviera ( ; ) is the narrow coastal strip in Italy which lies between the Ligurian Sea and the mountain chain formed by the Maritime Alps and the Apennines. Lisa Gastoni (born 28 July 1935) is an Italian film actress. Gastoni was named "Best Italian Actress of the Year, 1966" as she received both the Nastro D'Argento Award and the Golden Globe Award from Italy's Foreign Press Association.} Biography Daughter of an Italian father and an Irish mother, Gastoni and her family moved to England in 1948. La Thuile, Aosta Valley
La Thuile (; Valdôtain: ) is a town and ''comune'' in the Aosta Valley of northwest Italy. Geography La Thuile is located in the Alps at the extreme north-west of the country, close to the French alpine town of La Rosière, Savoie, La Rosière. 2023 Giro Donne
The 2023 Giro Donne was the 34th edition of the Giro Donne, a women's road cycling stage race that took place in Italy. The race began on the 30 June and ended on 9 July 2023. It was the 20th race in the 2023 UCI Women's World Tour calendar. The race was won by Annemiek van Vleuten of Movistar Team for the fourth time, beating Juliette Labous by nearly four minutes. Van Vleuten also won the points and mountains classifications, with Gaia Realini winning the youth classification and the Italian rider classification. Teams 24 teams participated in the race. Each team had seven riders, one more than the 2022 edition. All 15 UCI Women's WorldTeams were automatically invited.
