Alan Morrison (poet)
Alan Duncan Morrison (born 18 July 1974, Brighton) is a British poet. Overview of works Morrison's work is influenced by poets including John Davidson and Harold Monro, and Anglo-Welsh poets Alun Lewis and Dylan Thomas. However, his earliest influences were John Keats, Wilfred Owen, William Blake, Andrew Marvell, Emily Brontë and Percy Shelley. His poems are often characterised by social and polemical traits. Morrison selected, edited and designed the Collected Poems of David Kessel, ''O the Windows of the Bookshop Must Be Broken.'' /sup> Between 2007 and 2012 he ran poetry workshops at Mill View psychiatric hospital, Hove. In 2008 he gained an NHS Artists' Award to produce an anthology of writing from the workshops (2009) from which he was then commissioned to write his own poetic response to this residency, resulting in his epic work ''Captive Dragons / The Shadow Thorns'', published in October 2011. Alan Morrison (organist)
Alan Morrison is an American organist, notable both for his performance career and his teaching. He is the head of the organ department at the Curtis Institute of Music, College Organist at Ursinus College, and Organist in Residence at Spivey Hall at Clayton State University in Morrow, Georgia. At the start of his performance career he captured First Prize in two of the most prestigious national organ competitions, the Arthur Poister National Organ Playing Competition and the Clarence Mader National Organ Playing Competition, both in 1991 while still a student. After capturing the Silver Medal in the 1994 Calgary International Organ Festival & Competition his concert career was solidified with major engagements and eventual artist management with Karen McFarlane Artists, Inc. Alan Butler Morrison (born March 10, 1938) is an American attorney and the co-founder of Public Citizen Litigation Group. Early life and education Morrison was born in New York City in 1938. His father was a migrant from Ukraine who later worked as a lawyer and his mother was a native of Troy, New York whose father was an immigrant from Poland. As a child, Morrison and his family lived in California while his father was serving as an officer in the United States Air Force. He spent the rest of his childhood in Larchmont, New York. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University in 1959 and a Bachelor of Laws from Harvard Law School in 1966. Alan Morrison (born 3 March 1971) is a British racing driver who resides in Northern Ireland. Racing career A former British Champion in motocross and winner of a single 125cc Motocross World Championship race, he first started circuit racing in the Ford Fiesta championship in 1997 and again this time winning the championship in 1998. He entered the Vauxhall Vectra Sri Challenge in 1999, finishing 2nd on points. For 2000 Morrison was in the British Touring Car Championship's newly introduced class B. With his Peugeot 306 Gti he won the class championship with 13 class B wins. He is probably best known that year for a huge crash at Brands Hatch where he went into a barrel roll going round the Grand Prix circuit. In 2002 he got a BTCC touring class works drive for Honda, ran by Arena in a Honda Civic Type-R. Major General Alan Lindsay "Alby" Morrison, AO, DSO, MBE (15 August 1927 – 9 May 2008) was a senior officer in the Australian Army. A graduate of the Royal Military College, Duntroon, Morrison was commissioned as an infantry officer in 1947 and served on occupation duties in Japan as part of the British Commonwealth Occupation Force. He later served with the 3rd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, seeing combat as a platoon commander during the Korean War. After serving on the headquarters of the 28th Commonwealth Brigade, he led the 9th Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, during its combat tour during the Vietnam War. His later appointments included commander of the 1st Brigade and commandant of Duntroon. He retired from the Army in 1981 after 36 years of service, and died in 2008 at the age of 80.
