Alan Bulman
Alan Bulman (18 September 1927 – 3 June 1995) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Footscray Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Footscray Bulman, who played his early football with Bacchus Marsh, came to Footscray in 1945. Bulman won the 1947 Bacchus Marsh best and fairest award. He spent some time in the second eighteen, before making it into the seniors in the 1948 VFL season, making 12 appearances. A follower, Bulman was unable to become a regular fixture in the Footscray team, at times troubled by injury. Later career During the 1952 VFA season, Bulman joined Coburg, where he played for two years. Bacchus Marsh Football and Netball Club is an Australian rules football and netball club, located in Bacchus Marsh in Victoria (Australia), Victoria, Australia. The club's various football and netball teams compete in the Ballarat Football League, which is part of the Victorian Country Football League. The Western Bulldogs are a professional Australian rules football club based in the Melbourne suburb of Footscray. 1948 VFL Season
The 1948 VFL season was the 52nd season of the Victorian Football League (VFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Victoria. The season featured twelve clubs, ran from 17 April until 9 October, and comprised a 19-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top four clubs. The premiership was won by the Melbourne Football Club for the sixth time, after it defeated by 39 points in the 1948 VFL Grand Final Replay. Background In 1948, the VFL competition consisted of twelve teams of 18 on-the-field players each, plus two substitute players, known as the 19th man and the 20th man. A player could be substituted for any reason; however, once substituted, a player could not return to the field of play under any circumstances. The 1952 Victorian Football Association season was the 71st season of the Australian rules football competition. The premiership was won by the Oakleigh Football Club, after it defeated Port Melbourne by 21 points in the Grand Final on 4 October. It was Oakleigh's fourth VFA premiership.
