Alan Brinn
Alan Brinn (21 July 1940 — 9 February 2022) was an English rugby union international. Brinn was born in Ystrad, Wales and played his early rugby union with Hereford, before debuting for Gloucester in 1960, where he made a club record 574 appearances, mostly as a second-row forward. He played in Gloucester's 1971–72 RFU Knockout Cup title win and made six successive County Championship finals while representing Gloucestershire. Playing as a lock, Brinn gained three caps for England in the 1972 Five Nations Championship. Brinn later served as Gloucester chairman and was an associate national selector for England Rugby. He lived with wife Margaret in Gloucester for many years and ran a sport outfitting store in Eastgate Street, Gloucester. Ystrad
Ystrad (also known as Ystrad Rhondda or Ystrad-Rhondda) is a village and community (and electoral ward) in the Rhondda Fawr valley, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Wales. Description As a community and ward Ystrad contains the neighbouring district of Gelli. Ystrad is a former coal mining village which was once housed the most profitable collieries belonging to the Cory brothers. Ystrad is long and narrow, a main road where most amenities can be found, and a series of smaller residential streets lined with the terraces associated with the area. The majority of housing stock is the classic South Wales valleys terrace with infills of new build. The Rhondda Fawr River runs through the village, separating it from Gelli on the southern bank. Like most former coal mining communities in the South Wales Coalfield, Ystrad is remarkably self-contained. Gloucester Rugby
Gloucester Rugby are a professional rugby union club based in the West Country city of Gloucester, England. They play in Premiership Rugby, England's top division of rugby. The club was formed in 1873 and since 1891 has played its home matches at Kingsholm Stadium in the north of the city. In the 2024–25 Premiership Rugby season, Gloucester finished 5th which earned them a space in the 2025–26 European Rugby Champions Cup. The current director of rugby (DOR) is George Skivington who took the role of head coach in the summer of 2020 before being promoted to DOR in the Autumn of 2023. 1972 Five Nations Championship
The 1972 Five Nations Championship was the 43rd Five Nations Championship, an annual rugby union competition contested by the men's national teams of England, France, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, and the 78th since it began as the Home Nations Championship. For the first time since the Second World War, the championship was not completed. Scotland and Wales did not travel to Dublin to play Ireland because of escalating political tensions in the wake of Bloody Sunday. Although the remaining fixtures of the schedule were fulfilled, as both Ireland and Wales won all their matches, neither could claim the title. To fill the gap of the missing two fixtures, France played a friendly match in Dublin (in addition to the scheduled match in Paris).
