Alamgir Siddique (আলমগীর সিদ্দিকী) was a politician from Jashore, Bangladesh, who is well-known for his involvement in the Bengali language movement which advocated the recognition of Bengali as a state language of Pakistan. Early life Siddique was born on 19 November 1926. Career At the start of his political career, Alamgir Siddique was involved with the East Pakistan Muslim Student League. In January 1948, he issued a statement on behalf of the students of Jessore, demanding Bengali as the national language, which was published in the newspaper Ittehad. He played an instrumental role in forming the National Language Action Committee in Jessore in February 1948. On 26 February, in a meeting of student leaders at his home, a decision was made to form a committee similar to the National Language Action Committee in Dhaka. Jessore (, ), officially Jashore, is a city of Jessore District in Khulna Division. It lies in southwestern Bangladesh. It is home to the first flight training school of the Bangladeshi Air Force, established in 1971. Jessore city consists of 9 wards and 73 mahalls. Jashore municipality was established in 1864. The area of the town is 21.15 km2. It has a population of about 298,000 according to the record of Jessore municipality. Jessore also has a domestic airport named as Jessore Airport. National Awami Party
The National Awami Party (NAP) was the major left-wing political party in East and West Pakistan. It was founded in 1957 in Dhaka, erstwhile East Pakistan (present-day Bangladesh), by Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani and Yar Mohammad Khan, through the merger of various leftist and progressive political groups in Pakistan. Jashore Institute Public Library () is a public library in Jashore city founded in 1851. It is the oldest library in Bangladesh and one of the oldest libraries in South Asia. It also the oldest Library in Bangladesh. History Jessore Public Library was founded in 1851 by R. C. Rex. the district tax collector, in a central location of Jessore Town. R. C. Rex received funding from the local elites such as the indigo planters and local zamindars of Narail and Naldanga. The library became a centre of social and literary gathering in Jessore. The library had a billiard room. Jessore town developed around the library, the Jessore Town hall was built in 1904 and Arya Theatre in 1919. Kazi Abdus Shahid Lal (; 28 November 1939 – 20 May 2021) was a politician and lawyer from Jashore, Bangladesh. He is well known for his involvement in the 1962 East Pakistan education movement, the 1969 East Pakistan mass uprising, and the Bangladesh Liberation War. Early life Abdus Shahid was born on 28 November 1939 in Jessore. He studied at Michael Madhusudan College and Rajsahi University. Career Abdus Shahid started his political career with the East Pakistan Students Union (EPSU). Mosharraf Hossain (; 7 March 1925 – 3 February 1974) was a politician and lawyer from Jessore District, Jessore, Bangladesh. History The National Awami Party (Bhashani) was established on 30 November 1967 when the National Awami Party split into two different fractions.
