Alakbar Aliyev
Alakbar Aliyev (; 22 December 1955, in Ishikhly, Qubadlı, Azerbaijan – 7 August 1992, in Suarası, Lachin, Azerbaijan) was the National Hero of Azerbaijan, and the warrior of the First Nagorno-Karabakh War. Early life and education Alakbar Aliyev was born on 22 December 1955 in Ishigli village of Gubadly district of Azerbaijan. He graduated from the Sumgait Polytechnic Institute. Aliyev worked as chairman of the Chemical Union of Gubadly district, and then as Deputy Chairman of Sovkhoz in his native village. First Nagorno-Karabakh War Alakbar Aliyev voluntarily went to the front-line when Armenian soldiers attacked the territory of Azerbaijan. On 7 August 1992, he died in during a clash in the village of Suarasy in Lachin District. Personal life Aliyev was married, had 4 children. İşıqlı, Qubadli
Ishygly () is a village in the Qubadli District of Azerbaijan. History The village was located in the Armenian-occupied territories surrounding Nagorno-Karabakh, coming under the control of ethnic Armenian forces on 23 August 1993 during the First Nagorno-Karabakh War in the early 1990s. The village subsequently became part of the breakaway Republic of Artsakh as part of its Kashatagh Province, referred to as Urekan (). Qubadli (, ) is a city in Azerbaijan and the administrative centre of the Qubadli District. It is situated along the Vorotan (Bargushad) river. History Qubadli was part of the Zangezur uezd of the Elizavetpol Governorate during the Russian Empire. According to 1886 census data, there were 70 homes and 326 Azerbaijanis (classified as "Tatars" in the census) of the Shiite branch of Islam in Qubadli. According to the 1912 publication of the ''Caucasian Calendar'', the village of Qubadli was home to 672 people, the majority of whom were Azerbaijanis (classified as "Tatars" in the census). During the Soviet era, Qubadli was first a part of Azerbaijan SSR's Zangilan District, then the administrative centre of the Qubadli District, and from 1923 to 1930, it was also briefly a part of its Kurdistansky Uyezd. Martyrs' Lane
Martyrs' Lane or Alley of Martyrs (), formerly known as the Kirov Park, is a cemetery and memorial in Baku, Azerbaijan dedicated to those killed by the Soviet Army during Black January 1990 and in the First Nagorno-Karabakh War of 1988–1994. History In the closing days of World War I, fighting broke out in Baku as a result of the Russian Civil War, with four groups fighting for control of the area when the Russian Empire collapsed. Fighting each other were the Bolsheviks, Mensheviks, Armenians and Azerbaijanis. Many people were killed in the fighting including some from a small British force sent to prevent Baku falling into the hands of the Russians. The Martyrs' Lane site first served as Muslim cemetery for victims of the March Events of 1918. The cemetery was completely destroyed and the corpses removed after the Bolsheviks came to power, who created an amusement park on the site and installed a statue of Sergei Kirov, the prominent Bolshevik leader. Lachin District
Lachin District () is one of the 66 districts of Azerbaijan. It is located in the west of the country, belonging to the East Zangezur Economic Region. The district borders the districts of Kalbajar, Khojaly, Shusha, Khojavend, Qubadli, and the Syunik Province of Armenia. Its capital and largest city is Lachin. As of 2020, the district had a nominal population of 78,600. The territory of the district was established in 1930 and given the status of a district. The district was occupied by the self-proclaimed Republic of Artsakh from 1992 until late 2020, when the district was surrendered to Azerbaijan per the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh ceasefire agreement which ended the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh War. National Hero Of Azerbaijan
The National Hero of Azerbaijan () is the highest national title in the Republic of Azerbaijan. The title was named on 25 March 1992, and the "Qizil Ulduz" Medal awarded as a sign of receiving this title was established by a separate law on 15 July 1992. The law on the title has been in effect since 25 December 1995. It can only be awarded once to the same person. The title is awarded for outstanding services of national importance to Azerbaijan in defence and strengthening of the state system and creation of important national values.
