State Route 285 (SR 285) is a route that serves as a connection between U.S. Route 431 in Alabama, US 431 at Lakepoint State Park to Alabama State Route 165, SR 165 north of Wylaunee, Alabama, Wylaunee in eastern Barbour County, Alabama, Barbour County. The entire route is known as Old Highway 165 for its entire length, as it is a former alignment of SR 165. Route description The southern terminus of SR 285 is located at its intersection with US 431 at Lakepoint State Park. Lakepoint State Park
Lakepoint State Park is a public recreation area located on the far north side of the city of Eufaula, Alabama, Eufaula. The state park encompasses on the western shore of Walter F. George Lake, Lake Eufala (Walter F. George Lake), a impoundment of the Chattahoochee River. The park adjoins Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge and is managed by the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. History The park had its begins in 1968 with the state's purchase of on the shores of Walter F. George Reservoir. A campground and day-use facilities were added to the site in 1974. An 18-hole golf course, which had been constructed in 1972, was closed at the end of November 2015 in response to the statewide parks budgeting crisis which saw the closing or curtailment of services at several Alabama state parks. Barbour County, Alabama
Barbour County is a county in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 25,223. Its county seat is Clayton. Its largest city is Eufaula. Its name is in honor of James Barbour, who served as Governor of Virginia. History Barbour County was established on December 18, 1832, from former Muscogee homelands and a portion of Pike County. Between the years of 1763 and 1783 the area which is now Barbour County was part of the colony of British West Florida. After 1783 the region fell under the jurisdiction of the newly created United States of America. The Muscogee Creek Confederacy was removed to territory west of the Mississippi River. The fertile land was developed by southern migrants as large cotton plantations dependent on slave labor. State Route 165 (SR 165) is a state highway in the U.S. state of Alabama. It runs through Holy Trinity, Alabama in the eastern part of the state. Its northern terminus is at U.S. Route 431 (US 431) south of Phenix City, Alabama, and its southern terminus is at US 431 north of Eufaula, Alabama. Route description SR 165 begins at US 431 in Barbour County before heading north past the junction with SR 285, which leads to Lakepoint State Park. It travels near Eufaula National Wildlife Refuge before it enters Russell County and intersects SR 208 near Cottonton. SR 165 then goes through Holy Trinity and Fort Mitchell as it goes near the Fort Mitchell National Cemetery and terminates at US 431 near the Columbus, Georgia metropolitan area.
