State Route 166 (SR 166) is a short route in Coffee County in the southeastern part of the state. The western terminus of the route is at its junction with SR 141 at Danleys Crossroads, an unincorporated community in the western part of the county. The eastern terminus of the route is at its junction with U.S. Route 84 (US 84) at Elba. Route description State Route 166 is a five-mile (8 km) long route. The route traverses along a two-lane road in western Coffee County, passing through no towns or unincorporated communities until it reaches Elba. History When State Route 166 was created in 1972, its western terminus was approximately two miles south of the current terminus. Elba, Alabama
Elba is a city in and the county seat of Coffee County, Alabama, United States. It is the official seat, although there are two county courthouses, with the other one being located in the town of Enterprise. At the time of the 2010 U.S. census, Elba's population was 3,940. Elba is part of the Enterprise micropolitan statistical area. History The town which eventually became Elba originated near a ferry across the Pea River in the early 1830s. Originally called Bridgeville, a U.S. post office was established in the town by 1841. In 1851, a lottery to determine a new name for the town was held. One citizen had been reading a biography of Napoleon Bonaparte, and his suggestion of "Elba" as its name was the winner when it was drawn from a hat before any of the other suggestions. Elba became the county seat of Coffee County in 1852. A logging railroad first reached Elba on March 20, 1892, with the first permanent rail line arriving in October 1898. Coffee County, Alabama
Coffee County is a county located in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. As of the 2020 census, the population was 53,465. Its name is in honor of General John Coffee. Coffee County comprises the Enterprise, Micropolitan Statistical Area, which was originally Enterprise–Ozark micropolitan area in 2010 censuses before being split off. It was originally included in the Dothan-Enterprise-Ozark, Combined Statistical Area in its 2012 statistics but the area in its recent years has been separated from the Dothan metropolitan area and Ozark micropolitan area in later censuses and is its own primary statistical area now. Despite the census change of the statistics by the United States Census Bureau, the county still remains culturally connected alongside the two core based areas as it is commonly described as part of what is called the Wiregrass region together and also it shares its locations of United States army base, Fort Rucker. Alabama State Route 141
State Route 141 (SR 141) is a state highway in the southeastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The highway travels from SR 189 southeast of Elba north to U.S. Route 331 (US 331) and SR 9 south of Brantley. Route description SR 141 begins at an intersection with SR 189 in rural Coffee County, southeast of Elba. From here, the highway heads north-northwest through farmland until it intersects US 84 ( internally designated as SR 12); the two highways share a brief concurrency. SR 141 continues north past this intersection and meets SR 166 at its western terminus in Danleys Crossroads. Past this intersection, SR 141 heads north through a rural area before turning northwest and entering Crenshaw County. Opp, Alabama
Opp is a city in Covington County, Alabama, United States. At the 2020 census, the population was 6,771. Opp is named after Henry Opp, a lawyer for the Louisville and Nashville Railroad. Geography Opp is located in eastern Covington County at (31.283083, -86.254661). It is bordered by the town of Babbie to the west and the town of Horn Hill to the southwest. U.S. Routes 84 and 331 are the main roads that pass near the city. US 84 bypasses the city to the south and east, leading northeast 16 mi (26 km) to Elba and west 16 mi (26 km) to Andalusia, the county seat of Covington County. U.S. Route 84 (US 84) is an east–west U.S. Highway that started as a short Georgia–Alabama route in the original 1926 scheme. Later, in 1941, it had been extended all the way to Colorado. The highway's eastern terminus is a short distance east of Midway, Georgia, at an interchange with Interstate 95 (I-95). The road continues toward the nearby Atlantic Ocean as a county road.
