Alabama State Route 158
State Route 158 (SR 158) is a state highway in northern Mobile County in the southwestern corner of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 98 (US 98) northwest of Wilmer, just shy of the Mississippi state line. The eastern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 43 (US 43) at Saraland. The route will eventually become part of US 98 west of Mobile to the Mississippi state line as a four-lane bypass of Semmes. Route description SR 158 serves as a connector route between U.S. Route 98 (US 98) and U.S. Route 45 (US 45) to the west and Interstate 65 (I-65) and U.S. Route 43 (US 43) to the east. Meridian is the eighth most populous city in the U.S. state of Mississippi, with a population of 35,052 at the 2020 census. The University of Mobile is a private Baptist university in Prichard, Alabama, in Mobile County. It is affiliated with the Alabama Baptist Convention (Southern Baptist Convention). History The university was founded in 1961 by the Alabama Baptist State Convention under the name of Mobile College. Semmes (pronounced , locally ) is a city in western Mobile County, Alabama, in the Mobile metropolitan area. It was incorporated in 2011. As of the 2020 census, the population was 4,941. History The community was named for Admiral Raphael Semmes (1809–1877), an officer in the United States Navy from 1826 to 1861 and the Confederate States Navy from 1861 to 1865. Incorporation On March 3, 2010, the members of the Friends of Semmes and the associated Incorporate Semmes organizations presented Mobile County Probate Judge Don Davis with a petition seeking to incorporate an area within the Semmes community as the City of Semmes. The proposed incorporation did not include the entire area known as Semmes due to certain population density requirements of Alabama state law. Interstate 65 In Alabama
Interstate 65 (I-65) meanders across of the Alabama countryside linking six of the state's 10 largest cities. The highway links together many important roadways that make commerce inside and outside of the state's boundaries possible. It starts at I-10 near Mobile. The route passes through the major cities of Montgomery, Birmingham, Decatur, Huntsville, and Athens before entering Tennessee in the north near the town of Ardmore, Alabama.
