Alabama State Route 121
State Route 121 (SR 121) was a state highway entirely in Tallapoosa County in the east-central part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The southern terminus of the highway was at U.S. Route 280 (US 280) in Camp Hill. The northern terminus of the route was at its intersection with SR 50, also in Camp Hill. Route description State Route 121 began at US 280 (now old US 280) in Camp Hill, heading towards downtown Camp Hill. At downtown Camp Hill there was the town's police station, library, the old post office, and some abandoned buildings. SR 121 then ended at SR 50 in Camp Hill. History SR 121 was established in the 1970s and decommissioned three decades later in September 2005 because of the US 280 Bypass opening. Camp Hill is a town in Tallapoosa County, Alabama, United States. It was incorporated in 1895. At the 2010 census the population was 1,014, down from 1,273 in 2000. Camp Hill is the home to Southern Preparatory Academy (formerly known as "Lyman Ward Military Academy"). History On July 15, 1931, a white mob, led by Tallapoosa County sheriff Kyle Young and Camp Hill police chief J. M. Wilson—who voiced his desire t“kill every member of the ‘Reds’ there and throw them into the creek,”raided a meeting of the Alabama Sharecroppers' Union which was being held in a church in Camp Hill. A shootout between the mob and union members followed; SCU member Ralph Gray was murdered, his home burned, and his burned corpse was dumped on the courthouse steps. Alabama State Route 50
State Route 50 (SR 50) is a state highway in the eastern part of the U.S. state of Alabama. The western terminus of the highway is at an intersection with SR 229 near Lake Martin in northeastern Elmore County. The eastern terminus of the highway is at an intersection with U.S. Route 29 (US 29) at Lanett, just west of the Georgia state line. Route description From its western terminus, SR 50 assumes an eastward trajectory as it skirts the southern shores of Lake Martin, traveling through rural areas of Elmore and Tallapoosa counties.
