Al Jasrah (ship)
Al Jasrah () is a district in Qatar, located in the municipality of Ad Dawhah. It hosts Souq Waqif, one of the largest souqs in Qatar. Other points of interest in the district include Souq Jaidah, the Souq Waqif Falcon Hospital, the Souq Waqif Horse Stables, Abdul Aziz Nasser Theatre, Waqif Art Centre, Al Koot Fort (also known as Doha Fort) and Doha Fort Museum. Most of its landmarks are accessible through Al Souq Street, Souq Waqif Street and Al Jasra Street. To the immediate east of Al Jasrah is Al Souq, a Qatari commercial district that hosts a number of smaller-sized souqs. Etymology The meaning of "jasrah" in Arabic is "bridge". It was thus named because the partially submerged rocks along its coastline look like a bridge. It is sometimes pronounced as ''yasrah'' in local dialect. Souq Waqif
Souq Waqif () is a marketplace ( souq) in Doha, the capital of Qatar. The souq sells traditional garments, spices, handicrafts, and souvenirs. It is also home to restaurants and shisha lounges. The original building is a specimen of traditional Qatari architecture and dates back to the late 19th to early 20th centuries. It was renovated in 2006. Location It is located in the district of Al Souq which is situated in the centre of Doha. As it was a market used for trading activities, the area used to be located immediately on the shore to allow for boats to access it from Doha Bay. Souq Waqif's position relative to the bay was significantly altered throughout the late 1950s and early 1960s due to land reclamation for the Doha Corniche, which shifted the coastline approximately northward. Hassan Al Mulla
Hassan Al Mulla (; born 1951 in Doha, Qatar) is a Qatari artist specializing in paintings. He has been described as a "pioneer in painting in Qatar". Early life and education Al Mulla was born in Qatar's capital city Doha in 1951. He had been painting since his childhood. He joined the University of Baghdad's College of Fine Arts in 1972, specializing in oil paintings. In 1975, he graduated with a BA in fine arts. Career His paintings are surrealist. The most common themes in his paintings are childhood memories, traditional Qatari activities and the natural environment. He was one of the eighteen founding members of the Qatari Fine Arts Society in 1980 and served as its second president. He is a former director of the Department of Culture and Arts. He taught painting at Qatar University. In 2011, he was the vice-president of the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of People with Special Needs. House Of Thani
The House of Thani () is the ruling family of Qatar, with origins tracing back to the Adnanite Banu Tamim tribe. Today Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and his mother Moza bint Nassir lead the house. History and structure The Al Thani family can be traced back to Mudar ibn Nizar, a claimed descendant of the Biblical figure Ishmael. The tribe moved from the Najdi town of Ushaiger and settled at the Gebrin oasis in southern Najd (present-day Saudi Arabia) before they moved to Qatar. Around the 17th century, the tribe lived in Ushaiger, a settlement north-west of Riyadh. They settled in Qatar around the 1720s. Their first settlement in Qatar was in the southern town of Sikak, and from there they moved north-west to Zubarah and Al Ruwais. The horse (''Equus ferus caballus'') is a domesticated, one-toed, hoofed mammal. It belongs to the taxonomic family Equidae and is one of two extant subspecies of ''Equus ferus''. The horse has evolved over the past 45 to 55 million years from a small multi-toed creature, ''Eohippus'', into the large, single-toed animal of today.
