Al Hilal Juba Football Club is a South Sudanese football club located in Juba, South Sudan, which currently plays in the South Sudan Football Championship. Name and history The name ''Hilāl'' is the Arabic word for crescent – a name chosen on a night when the crescent of the moon was visible in Omdurman. Also it is the first club in the world to be named (AL- HILAL). This name coming from North Sudan. Al Hilal Juba was established in 1956 by the Sudanese community in Juba, who were fans of Al Hilal Omdurman. Since then, they have gone onto become one of Juba's strongest clubs and are the reigning South Sudan Cup champions after taking the title in 2017. Juba Stadium
Juba Stadium is a multi-use stadium in Juba, South Sudan. It is the home ground of the South Sudan national football team and, as the only stadium in Juba for many years until recently, several local clubs as well, including Atlabara FC, Al-Malakia FC, and Al-Salam FC. Juba Stadium opened with a capacity of 7,000 in 1962. It hosted matches for the 2009 CECAFA U-17 Championship. Juba Stadium has been undergoing renovations and expansion, with completion due by end of 2022, and capacity to be increased to 19,000. In May 2013 the Central Equatoria government announced plans to build a second stadium in Juba, with a capacity of 35,000. In 2021 the South Sudanese Government approved US $25m towards its construction, while the Chinese Government contributed 85% of the cost. South Sudan Football Championship
The South Sudan Football Championship is the second-tier division of the South Sudan Football Association. The first season started in 2011 after the independence of South Sudan. Seven provincial champions entered and Al-Salam FC won. They went on to represent South Sudan in the 2012 Kagame Interclub Cup of CECAFA. Atlabara won the second championship in 2013, then participated in the 2014 CAF Champions League. Juba is the capital and largest city of South Sudan. The city is situated on the White Nile and also serves as the capital of the Central Equatoria, Central Equatoria State. The South Sudan National Cup is an annual knockout association football competition in men's domestic South Sudanese football. Organized by the South Sudan Football Association, the cup began in 2012, not long after South Sudan gained independence. The CAF Confederation Cup, known as the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup for sponsorship purposes, is an annual association football football team, club competition established in 2004 and organized by Confederation of African Football, CAF. Clubs qualify for the competition based on their performance in their national leagues and cup competitions.
