Al Ashkharah
Al Ashkharah () (named after a poisonous desert plant) is a town in the Ash Sharqiyah Region of Oman and is 80km from Ras al-Hadd and 90km from Ras al-Jinz. It is part of the J'alan area and can be considered as the key city of this area in addition to Ja'lan. The city's main economic activity is fishing Fishing is the activity of trying to catch fish. Subdivisions Of Oman
Oman is divided into eleven governorates (''muhafazah'') as of 28 October 2011. Each of the 11 governorates are divided into ''wilayat'' (provinces of Oman, provinces). Regions and governorates before 2011 Before 28 October 2011, Oman was divided into five regions (''mintaqah'') and four governorates (''muhafazah''). The governorates were Muscat, Dhofar, Buraimi and Musandam. Al Buraimi Governorate, Buraimi Governorate was created in October 2006 from parts of Ad Dhahirah Region. Ash-Sharqiyyah Region () was the eastern ''mintaqah, minṭaqah'' (Administrative divisions of Oman, region) of the Sultanate of Oman. The capital of Ash-Sharqiyyah is Sur, Oman, Sur. On 28 October 2011 Ash Sharqiyah Region was split into Ash Sharqiyah North Governorate and Ash Sharqiyah South Governorate. Ras Al-Hadd
Raʾs al-Ḥadd () is a village in Ash Sharqiyah district in Oman. It is on a point at the entrance to the Gulf of Oman. The region is served by Ras al Hadd Airport. Ras Al-Jinz
Raʾs al-Jinz (; formerly known as Cape Rosalgate as named by the Portuguese, a corruption of Raʾs al-Hadd; ) or ''Raʾs al-Junayz'' (), located in Ash-Sharqiyyah South Governorate, Oman, is the easternmost point of the Arabian Peninsula. It is a nesting site for green turtles, as also is the beach at the local village of Ras al Hadd. It is home to a well-known turtle reserve. Important archaeological discoveries have also been made at this site, demonstrating connections to the Indus Valley in ancient times. Bronze Age harbour At Ras al-Jinz, since 1985, a Bronze Age (approximately 2200 to 1900 BC) harbour site has been excavated by a Franco-Italian team. There was a large mudbrick building with seven rooms. These rooms opened onto a corridor. The building seems to have served as a manufacturing workshop. Samuel Barrett Miles (2 October 1838 – 28 August 1914) was a British Army officer who served as a diplomat in various Arabic-speaking countries, notably Oman, which he came to know better than any other European of the time. The notes that he made were published after his death as ''The Countries and Tribes of the Persian Gulf''. Early years Samuel Barrett Miles was born on 2 October 1838, the son of Major-General Miles. His father was in the military service of the East India Company. Miles was educated at Harrow. He joined the British Indian Army in 1857, the year of the Indian Mutiny. He entered the 7th Regiment of Bombay Native Infantry as an ensign, was promoted to lieutenant in 1860 and became regimental quarter-master in 1864. In November 1866 he moved with his regiment to Aden. The next year he was appointed Cantonment Magistrate and Assistant Resident at Aden.
