AlRay AlAam
''Al Ray Alaam'' () was a Kuwaiti Arabic-language daily newspaper that ceased publication in 1995. History and operations The newspaper was launched by Abdulaziz Al Massaeed on 16 April 1961 as a weekly with the name of ''Al Rai Aam''. Al Masaeed was both the owner and the publisher of the newspaper that was initially published in Beirut, Lebanon. Later it was relaunched as a daily based in Kuwait. ''Alrai Alaam'' ceased publication for ten days on 26 January 1970 when it was suspended by the Kuwaiti authorities due to its harsh criticisms over the editorial of Mohamed Heikal published in the Egyptian newspaper ''Al-Ahram''. The license of ''Alrai Alaam' was rented to Jassim Al Boodai and in 1995, and it was re-published as '' Al Rai'' in 2006 after the new press law and under new ownership. Abdulaziz ( ota, عبد العزيز, ʿAbdü'l-ʿAzîz; tr, Abdülaziz; 8 February 18304 June 1876) was the 32nd Sultan of the Ottoman Empire and reigned from 25 June 1861 to 30 May 1876, when he was overthrown in a government coup. He was a son of Sultan Mahmud II and succeeded his brother Abdulmejid I in 1861. Born at Eyüp Palace, Constantinople (present-day Istanbul), on 8 February 1830, Abdulaziz received an Ottoman education but was nevertheless an ardent admirer of the material progress that was being achieved in the West. He was the first Ottoman Sultan who travelled to Western Europe, visiting a number of important European capitals including Paris, London, and Vienna in the summer of 1867. Apart from his passion for the Ottoman Navy, which had the world's third largest fleet in 1875 (after the British and French navies), the Sultan took an interest in documenting the Ottoman Empire. '' Hadiqat Al Akhbar'' (''The News Garden'' in English) is the first daily newspaper of Lebanon which was launched in 1858. From 1858 to 1958 there were nearly 200 newspapers in the country. Prior to 1963 the number of newspapers was more than 400. However, the number reduced to 53 due to the 1963 press law. Censorship of the press in the country occurred during the Ottoman era. It was also frequent in 1976 following the intervention of Syrian military in the Lebanese Civil War on behalf of Maronite Christians. ''Al Rai'' (), which was published as '' Al Rai Alaam'' () from 1995 to 2006, is a Kuwaiti daily newspaper. According to a 2007 survey by the Washington-based Intermedia group, ''Al Rai'' ranked one among Kuwaiti newspapers for the fifth year in a row. History and profile The ''Al Rai Alaam'' newspaper license was rented to Jassim Al Boodai (the Alrai owner) in 1995, and it was published as ''Al Rai'' in 2006 after the new press law. Egyptian journalist Abdallah Kamal was the advisor of the paper. The paper contains numerous interviews with many world leaders.
