Al-Zaeem Sport Club (), is an Iraqi football team based in Al-Suwaira, Wasit, that plays in Iraqi First Division League. Naming "Al-Zaeem", which means the leader, is the nickname given to the former Iraqi prime minister Abd al-Karim Qasim, hence the name of the club, and it is the first and most popular club in Wasit. Iraqi First Division League
The Iraqi First Division League is a Association football, football league that is the third tier of the Iraqi football league system, which was founded in 1974. The league consists of 20 teams split into two groups in the first stage. The top four teams in each group qualify for the second stage, where they are split into two further groups. The two group winners in the second stage are promoted directly to the Iraqi Premier Division League, while the two bottom teams in the first stage are relegated to the Iraqi Second Division League. The league is governed by the Iraq Football Association (IFA). In the 2023–24 Iraqi First Division League, 2023–24 season, Al-Mosul SC, Al-Mosul won the championship title after defeating Al-Kadhimiya SC, Al-Kadhimiya 6–4 on penalties after a 1–1 draw in the final match. Wasit Governorate
Wasit Governorate () is a governorate in eastern Iraq, south-east of Baghdad and bordering Iran. Prior to 1976 it was known as Kut Province. Major cities include the capital Al-Kut, Al-Hai and Al-Suwaira. The governorate contains the Mesopotamian Marshes of Shuwayja, Al-Attariyah, and Hor Aldelmj. Abd Al-Karim Qasim
Abdul-Karim Qasim Muhammad Bakr al-Fadhli Al-Qaraghuli al-Zubaidi ( ' ; 21 November 1914 – 9 February 1963) was an Iraqi military officer and statesman who served as the Prime Minister and de facto leader of Iraq from 1958 until his overthrow in 1963. Qasim came to power in 1958 when the Iraqi monarchy was overthrown during the 14 July Revolution. The 2020–21 Iraq FA Cup was the 31st edition of the Iraqi knockout football cup as a club competition, the main domestic cup in Iraqi football, featuring 126 teams (20 from the Iraqi Premier League and 106 from the Iraqi First Division League and Iraqi Second Division League).
