Al-Shorta SC Basketball is a professional basketball team based in Baghdad, Iraq. It is a part of the Al-Shorta SC multi-sports club, whose origins date back to 1932. The team has won three Iraqi Basketball Premier League titles, most recently in the 2014–15 season, and has won one Iraqi Basketball Perseverance Cup title. Al-Shorta have previously reached the quarter-finals of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, and have finished in fourth place at the Arab Club Basketball Championship and fifth place at the WABA Champions Cup. Al-Shorta finished in fourth place in the West Asia sub-zone in the 2023–24 West Asia Super League. The record winners of the competition are Al-Karkh, who have won the championship 13 times. The FIBA West Asia Super League (WASL) is an international basketball league organised by FIBA Asia, consisting of clubs from West Asia and Gulf regions, in addition to the representatives of South and Central Asia. The league was announced in 2022 and started with the inaugural season from December, until June 2023. The league exists out of 18 teams, divided in its sub-zones. Al-Naft Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional basketball club based in the Al-Rusafa district in Baghdad. Owned and operated by the Ministry of Oil, the team plays in the Iraqi Basketball League and has won seven national league championships. The team is part of the Al-Naft SC sports club that also fields a football team. Home games of Al-Naft are played in the Al-Shaab Hall. 2016 FIBA Asia Champions Cup
The 2016 FIBA Asia Champions Cup was the 25th staging of the FIBA Asia Champions Cup, the international basketball club tournament of FIBA Asia. The tournament took place in Chenzhou, China from 8 October to 16 October, 2016. The venue of the tournament was Chenzhou Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium. This was the return of the tournament after a two-year hiatus since the 2013 edition. Xinjiang Flying Tigers from China, which used the name 'China Kashgar' during this tournament, won its first ever FIBA Asia Champions Cup title in its tournament debut. After going undefeated in the entire tournament, Xinjiang defeated Al-Riyadi from Lebanon in the final game, 96–88. It was the fourth time a club from China has won the championship. Al-Karkh Sports Club ( ar, نادي الكرخ الرياضي) is an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team plays in the Iraqi Premier League, the top tier of the Iraqi football.
