Al-Rasheed Sports Club () was an Iraqi sports club based in Karkh, Baghdad. Its professional football team played in what is now known as the Iraq Stars League, the top tier of the Iraqi football, from 1984 until 1990. The club's home stadium was Al-Rasheed Stadium. Founded in 1983 by Uday Hussein, the son of Saddam Hussein, Al-Rasheed were promoted to the top tier in their first season of existence and went on to win 3 league titles in a row, 2 FA Cups, 3 Arab Champions Cup titles, and reach the final of the 1988–89 Asian Club Championship. In 1990, the club was dissolved and all its properties as well as its place in the top division were transferred to Al-Karkh SC. Al Karkh Stadium
Al-Saher Ahmed Radhi Stadium () is a multi-use stadium in Baghdad, Iraq. It is used mostly for football (soccer), football matches and serves as the home stadium of Al-Karkh SC. The stadium holds 5,150 people. Etymology Originally called Al-Mansour Local Administration Stadium, it was renamed Al-Rasheed Stadium when Al-Rasheed SC took over the ground in 1984. It became known as Al-Karkh Stadium after Al-Karkh replaced the dissolved Al-Rasheed in the top division in 1990. Ammo Baba
Emmanuel Baba Dawud (27 November 1934 – 27 May 2009), better known as Ammo Baba (, ), was an Iraqi football player and coach of the Iraq national football team. He scored the first international goal for Iraq in 1957 against Morocco at the 2nd Pan Arab Games in Beirut and later returned to the team as the coach in 1978. Playing career Ammo Baba was born in Baghdad, Iraq, of Assyrian ethnicity. He emerged in the Middle Eastern football scene at the age of 16 at a 1951 Pan Arab School Championship in Cairo playing for the Iraq against the home nation Egypt. He had been discovered by Iraqi schoolboys' coach Ismail Mohammed while playing for the Liwa Al-Dulaim school province team. Mohammed gave him the nickname 'Ammo Baba' and advised him to move to Baghdad to play for one of Iraq's top teams. The 1985–86 Asian Club Championship was the fifth edition of the annual Asian club football competition hosted by the Asian Football Confederation, and was the first such tournament in 14 years. Al-Zawra'a Sports Club () is an Iraqi professional sports club based in Utayfia, Karkh District (near Tigris River), Baghdad. Their football team competes in the Iraq Stars League, the top-flight of Iraqi football. Al-Zawra'a have won the most major honours of any club in Iraq, having won 14 league titles, 16 Iraq FA Cups and 5 Iraqi Super Cups—all record totals. Al-Zawra'a also won the Baghdad Championship a joint-record three times. Laith Hussein Shihaib Al-Tawlid (; born 13 October 1968) is an Iraqi former football player who played as a midfielder and served as the captain of the Iraqi national team. He was vital to speaking out against Uday Hussein, the chairman of the Iraqi Olympic Committee, who was known for his brutality against the football team. Habib Jafar
Habib Jafar Akal (; born 1 July 1966) is a former Iraqi footballer. He was featured on the national team many times and is remembered for competing in various Gulf Cup competitions. In the 1988 Gulf Cup, he was voted as the best player of the competition. He became a regular of the national team at a young age and was almost even called up for the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, but he was thought to be to inexperienced by then-coach, Evaristo de Macedo. Career He was a key player in the Iraqi national team during the late 1980s and through the 1990s. Habib first appeared in the national team in 1988, playing in the Arab Championship, Olympics in Seoul and the Gulf Cup, where he was voted as player of the tournament. Haris Mohammed
Haris Mohammed Hassan (; born 3 March 1958) is an Iraqi football midfielder who played for Iraq in the 1986 FIFA World Cup. He also played for Al-Rasheed Club. Haris Mohammed was a skilful and creative right sided attacking midfielder, born and bred in Mosul. He started to hone his skills on the streets, frequently annoying the neighbours. After realising his potential on the football field, he played for the school province football team under the supervision of coach Dawud Azzawi. He earned reputation as a goalscorer with the Iraqi youth team winning the 1978 Asian Youth Championship in Bangladesh, he joined Talaba SC, helping them to two league titles while at the club. He had the most success while at Al-Rasheed, winning three leagues, two cups and a record three Arab Club Championships.
