Al-Nahar () is a Canadian exempt Category B Arabic language specialty channel and a general interest television network from Egypt. Programming includes talk shows, political discussions, dramas, movies, mini-series, game shows and reality series. History Al-Nahar was launched on June 30, 2011, by the Egyptian businessman Alaa El Kahky. The Canadian version of the channel originally launched as Orbit Al Yawm () but was subsequently re-branded as Al-Nahar TV in July 2011. It was renamed to Al-Nahar One between 2016-2017 but reverted to just Al-Nahar. Current Channels Al-Nahar Drama () It was launched on August 1, 2011. It mainly broadcasts popular Arabic television series and dramas, hence the name. Al-Nahar Noor () It was launched in Ramadan 2015, and broadcast religious TV shows, but was closed in July 2017. Ennahar TV
Ennahar TV () is an Arabic satellite television channel broadcasting from Bir Mourad Rais. Ennahar TV was set up by Ennahar Group and a number of Arab intellectuals from Algeria and the rest of the Arab world. History Ennahar TV started broadcasting in test mode on 6 March 2012 using Nilesat from Amman. It opened its programming by broadcasting TV news by the duo of Riyadh Benamar and Nour El Yakin Meghriche. In April 2013, the Ministry of Communication confirmed the approval of Ennahar TV, along with Echourouk TV and El Djazairia. This administrative authorization was provisional and only valid until 31 December 2013. On 5 July 2013, Ennahar Documentaries, a sister channel of Ennahar TV, was launched on Nilesat to broadcast reports and documentaries from the Ennahar TV catalogue continuously. Television in Egypt is mainly received through free satellite, while analog terrestrial represents 41% of total viewers. The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics said the average time an Egyptian spends watching television a day is 180 minutes (3 hours), while Egyptian channels recorded 170,000 hours of broadcast in 2019. Since Egypt launched its first broadcasts in 1960, state-run channels have held a monopoly on terrestrial broadcast. The Ministry of Information strictly regulated private satellite channels as well. The Egyptian Radio and Television Union, a government entity, owns all 17 terrestrial channels. Channel 1 and Channel 2 are the network’s main channels and broadcast across Egypt.
