Al-Jalaa Stadium
Al-Jalaa Stadium ( ar, مَلْعَب ٱلْجَلَاء, Malʿab al-Jalāʾ, English: Liberation Stadium) is a multi-use stadium in Damascus, Syria, currently used mostly for football matches. It is also home to Syrian Premier League clubs Al-Wahda and Al-Majd. The stadium was able to hold up to 15,000 spectators. However, in 2020, the stadium was converted into an all-seater stadium with a capacity of 10,000 seats. The Syrian Premier League ( ar, الدوري السوري الممتاز) is a professional association football league in Syria and the top division in of the Syrian football league system. The league comprises 12 teams and operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Syrian League 1st Division. The Syrian Premier League was founded in 1966, unifying the local leagues that had existed previously. Seasons mostly run from August to May. The first team to win the title was Al-Ittihad in 1967, whilst Al-Jaish has the record with 17 league titles. Their closest rivals, Al-Karamah, have won the league 8 times. Al-Majd Sports Club ( ar, نادي المجد الرياضي) is a Syrian football club based in Damascus, Syria. The club is insignificant compared to the city rival Al-Wahda, but more popular than the other rival Al-Jaish. History The club was founded in 1932 under the name of Damascus Al-Ahly Club, and is one of the oldest football clubs in Damascus and the whole country. The club's greatest success is the Syrian cup victory in the 1960/61 and 1977/78 season. The Arab Games ( ar, الألعاب العربية), also called the Pan Arab Games, are a regional multi-sport event held between nations from the Arab world. They are organized by the Union of Arab National Olympic Committees. The first Games took place in 1953 in Alexandria, Egypt.
