''The Hunger'' (''Al-Go'a'', ''الجوع'') is a 1986 Egyptian drama/romance movie, starring Souad Hosni, Yousra and Mahmoud Abdel Aziz. Plot The movie, based upon the novel of the same name by Naguib Mahfouz, examines the social conditions of Cairenes during the first decade of the twentieth century. In doing so, both the movie and novel deal extensively with the themes of poverty and death. Ali Badrakhan
Ali Badrakhan (born April 25, 1946) is an Egyptian film director and screenwriter, the son of the director Ahmed Badrakhan. He worked as assistant to Fatin Abdel Wahab in '' Land of Hypocrisy'' in 1968, and with Youssef Chahine in the films ''Selection'' in 1971 and '' The Sparrow'' in 1974; his first movie was ''The Love That Was'' (1973) by Soad Hosny. Badrakhan collaborated with Naguib Mahfouz, Salah Jahin, and Ahmed Zaki. Early life Badrakhan was born to Ahmed Badrakhan who is of Kurdish descent and Salwa Allam in Cairo circa 1946. Naguib Mahfouz
Naguib Mahfouz Abdelaziz Ibrahim Ahmed Al-Basha (, ; 11 December 1911 – 30 August 2006) was an Egyptian writer who won the 1988 Nobel Prize in Literature. In awarding the prize, the Swedish Academy described him as a writer "who, through works rich in nuance – now clear-sightedly realistic, now evocatively ambiguous – has formed an Arabian narrative art that applies to all mankind". Mahfouz is regarded as one of the first contemporary writers in Arabic literature, along with Taha Hussein, to explore themes of existentialism. He is the only Egyptian to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. He published 35 novels, over 350 short stories, 26 screenplays, hundreds of op-ed columns for Egyptian newspapers, and seven plays over a 70-year career, from the 1930s until 2004.
