Al Gharafa Doha is a Qatari professional basketball club. The club competes in the Qatari Basketball League. The club has traditionally provided Qatar's national basketball team with key players. History The team originally competed under the name Al-Ittihad and changed its name to Al-Gharafa before the 2005 season. The team won the Qatari League in 2014. Qatari Basketball League
The Qatari Basketball League () is the top-tier men's basketball league operating in Qatar. The winning team obtains the participation right to the FIBA Asia Champions Cup. The first official season took place in 1981/82. There is a second division and two domestic cup tournaments, the Emir of Qatar Cup and the Qatar Crown Prince Cup. In the 2012–13 season, the league expanded for the first time in its history, going from 8 to 12 teams with the newly entered clubs including Lekhwiya, Al-Shamal Sports Club, Umm Salal SC, and Al-Khor Sports Club. Devan Deangelo Downey (born September 28, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. Amateur career He was born in Chester, South Carolina where he attended Chester High School. Named S.C. Class AAA Player of the Year and Mr. Basketball as a senior at Chester High Devan Downey Averaged 36.9 points, 6.1 assists, 4.3 rebounds and 4.7 steals his senior year under coach De'Andre Scott. He played collegiately for the University of Cincinnati and then the University of South Carolina, where he was an honorable mention All-American and 1st team All-SEC player in 2008–09. Al-Gharafa Sports Club
Al-Gharafa Sports Club ( ar, نادي الغرافة الرياضي) is a Qatari multisports club based in the Al Gharrafa district of Al Rayyan. It is best known for its football team, although it also has teams for other sports. It was established on 6 June 1979 as Al-Ittihad and later officially incorporated into the Qatar Football Association on 23 September of that same year. The club was officially renamed to its current form in 2004 to better represent the district of Al-Gharafa, of which the club belongs to. The club was most notably founded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al-Thani, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani and Saad Mohammed Al-Rumaihi. Justin Lee Watts (born July 1, 1990) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Chernomorets Burgas of the Bulgarian National Basketball League. He played college basketball for the University of North Carolina, where he won an NCAA Championship as a freshman in 2009. Michael Rene Taylor (born January 21, 1986) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Chipola College and Iowa State. College basketball Collegiately, Taylor played three seasons for Chipola College (NJCAA-FCCAA, 2004–2005 to 2005–2006) and Iowa State University (2006–07), leading the latter team in scoring with 16.0 points per game. Eugene Spates (born January 11, 1987) is an American professional basketball player. A Dallas, Texas native, Spates played collegiately with the Northeastern Huskies, Northeastern University Huskies in Boston, Massachusetts from 2006 to 2009.
