Al-Gharafa
Al-Gharafa Sports Club () is a Qatari multi-sports club based in the Al Gharrafa district of Ar Rayyan, Al Rayyan municipality. The club is best known for its association football, football team, although it also has teams for other sports. The club was established on 6 June 1979 as Al-Ittihad and later officially incorporated into the Qatar Football Association on 23 September of that same year. The club was officially renamed to its current form in 2004 to better represent the district of Al-Gharafa, where the club is located. The club was founded by Sheikh Mohammed bin Jassim Al-Thani, Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim Al-Thani, Sheikh Hamad bin Faisal Al-Thani, Sheikh Ali bin Abdullah Al-Thani and Saad Mohammed Al-Rumaihi. Qatar Stars League
The Qatar Stars League (; abbreviated as QSL), known as Ooredoo Stars League for sponsorship reasons, is the top level football league in Qatar football league system. Contested by 12 teams, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Qatari Second Division (QSD), with the lowest ranked club at the end of the QSL season being demoted to make room for the promotion of the highest ranked QSD club of the season. The QSL season usually runs from September to April. The league's first season was played in 1963, although the first official season occurred in 1972. Pedro Rui da Mota Vieira Martins (born 17 July 1970) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder, currently manager of Qatar Stars League club Al-Gharafa. He amassed Primeira Liga totals of 197 matches and nine goals over ten seasons, in representation of Feirense, Vitória de Guimarães, Sporting CP, Boavista, Santa Clara and Alverca. He added 126 games and eight goals in the Segunda Liga, in a sixteen-year professional career. Emir of Qatar Cup (), also known as the Emir Cup, but changed to Amir Cup starting in 2019, is an association football tournament played every season by all first and second division teams in Qatar. The tournament is played in a knockout system, starting with the round of 16. If there is no winner after regulation time, a Penalty shoot-out (association football), penalty shootout decides the winner. History The Emir of Qatar Cup is the biggest football cup in the country. The cup was originally only contested by first division teams, but in 1999 the Qatar Football Association decided to allow all second division teams to participate. The Thani bin Jassim Stadium (), also known as the Al-Gharrafa Stadium, is a multi-purpose stadium in the Al Gharrafa district of Al Rayyan (city), Al Rayyan, Qatar. Al Sadd Sports Club () is a Qatari sports club based in the Al Sadd district of the capital city Doha. It is best known for its association football team, which competes in the top level of Qatari football, the Qatar Stars League. The Qatari Second Division (), QSD or Second Division League, also was known as Qatargas League due to sponsorship reasons, is the second tier of the two-tier football league competition in Qatar. Contested by 8 teams, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with the Qatar Stars League (QSL), the top-tier football league in the country. The QSD seasons, like those of the QSL, run from September to April. The league's first season was played in 1979 which was won by Al-Ittihad. The club with the most QSD wins is Al-Markhiya which has won 6 QSD titles. Sheikh Jassem Cup
The Sheikh Jassim Cup () is an annual men's super cup competition in Qatari football held between the winner of the Qatar Stars League and the Emir of Qatar Cup. History The inaugural Sheikh Jassim Cup was held in 1977. Prior to the 2014 Sheikh Jassim Cup, all 18 Qatari football clubs competed in the cup. Under this format, the teams were divided into four groups with the winners from each group qualifying for the semi-finals. The cup serves as the opening event to the Qatar's football season. Adel Khamis (born November 11, 1965) is a retired Qatari footballer who played as a defender. He is the first Qatari footballer to play abroad. Career Khamis started his career in the youth teams of Al Gharafa in 1979. He eventually progressed to the senior squad in 1983, when the team was in the Qatari Second Division.
