Jamal Al-Din Al-Afghani
Sayyid Jamāl al-Dīn al-Afghānī (Pashto/), also known as Jamāl ad-Dīn Asadābādī () and commonly known as Al-Afghani (1838/1839 – 9 March 1897), was an Iranian political activist and Islamic ideologist who travelled throughout the Muslim world during the late 19th century. He is one of the founders of Islamic Modernism as well as an advocate of Pan-Islamic unity in India against the British. He has been described as having been less interested in minor differences in Islamic jurisprudence than he was in organizing a united response to Western pressure. He is also known for his involvement with his follower Mirza Reza Kermani in the successful plot to assassinate Shah Naser-al-Din, whom Afghani considered to be making too many concessions to foreign powers, especially the British Empire. Abul Wafa Syed Mahmūd Shah al-Qadri al-Hanafi al-Afghani (25 June 1893 – 23 July 1975), also known as Abu Wafa Al Afghani, was a Hyderabad-based Afghani Islamic scholar, Hanafi faqih, and researcher. Early life and education Abul Wafa Al-Afghani was born in Qandahar on 10 Dhu al-Hijjah 1310 AH (25 June 1893 AD). His father, Syed Mubarak Shah Qadri, was an Islamic scholar. He came to India from Qandahar for study and studied with scholars in Rampur and Gujarat in his teenage years. He subsequently traveled to Hyderabad, Deccan, in 1330 AH (1912) and enrolled in Madrasa Nizamia, where he graduated. Muhammad Rahim (born 1965) is an Afghan national who is held in captivity by the United States Government at Guantanamo Bay. He was born in eastern Afghanistan. Muhammad Rahim worked for an Afghan government committee that worked to eliminate opium poppies from the nation. He was forced to leave his job by the Taliban. In 1979, Rahim fled Afghanistan with his brother over the border of Pakistan. Their departure was triggered by the Soviet Union invasion into Afghanistan. In 2007, ''The Nation'' reported that Rahim and Sheikh Ilyas Khel had been apprehended by Pakistani security officials.
