Akuapim South District
Akuapim South District is one of the thirty-three districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger and first Akuapim South District in 1988, which it was created from the former Akuapim District Council; until it was elevated to municipal district assembly status to become Akuapim South Municipal District, with Nsawam as its capital town. However on 6 February 2012, the northeast part of the district was split off to create a new Akuapim South District, with Aburi as its capital town; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Nsawam Adoagyire Municipal District, with Nsawam as its capital town. The Districts of Ghana are second-level administrative subdivisions of Ghana, below the level of region. There are 261 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). History The districts of Ghana were re-organized in 1988/1989 in an attempt to decentralize the government and to assist in development. The reform of the late 1980s subdivided the regions of Ghana into 110 districts, where local district assemblies should deal with the local administration. By 2006, an additional 28 districts were created by splitting some of the original 110, bringing their number up to 138. In February 2008, there were more districts created and some were upgraded to municipal status. This brought the final number to 170 districts in Ghana. The Eastern Region is located in south Ghana and is one of the sixteen administrative regions of Ghana. The Regions of Ghana constitute the first level of subnational government administration within the Republic of Ghana. As of 2020, there are currently sixteen regions, which are further divided for administrative purposes into 260 local metropolitan, municipal and district assemblies (or MMDA's). Adukrom
Adukrom is a town in the Okere District Assembly in the Eastern Region of Ghana. It shares borders with Awukugua Akuapem where Okomfo anokye was born The town is known for the Nifahene Stool of Akuapem and the capital of Okere District and situated on the Togo Atakora hills on the main Ho-Koforidua main trunk road in the northern part of Akuapem. It is also the political and administrative capital of the Okere Constituency which is currently represented in Parliament by the New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament, Hon. Dan Botwe. Adukrom has an estimated population of 8,881 in 2013. The town used to be the capital of the Nifa Division of the Akuapem State which was created in 1730.
