Akosombo International School (AIS) is a Ghanaian coeducational international second-cycle institution located at Akosombo in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region. It is operated by the Volta River Authority. History The school was established in 1962 by the Volta River Authority. Akosombo
Akosombo is a small town in the south of the Asuogyaman District, Eastern Region, Ghana with notable street names of some African countries in the sub-region like Ghana, Congo, Namibia, Lagos-town, and Freetown. It is occupied by people of diverse ethnic backgrounds, like the Akans, Ewe, Krobo and other ethnic groups. Akosombo is north of the Adomi Bridge at Atimpoku, which is a 3 to 5 minute drive away. Akosombo Dam The Ghanaian town of Akosombo is the site of the Akosombo Dam. The capital of Asuogyaman District, Atimpoku, is very close by. Education in Ghana uses a dualistic approach encompassing both formal and informal learning systems. The current formal educational system was introduced during European colonisation. However, learning systems existed prior to that. The Moliyili, University of Moliyili is one of the earliest learning centers in Ghana established in the 1700s. During colonisation, Scramble for Africa, European settlers initially introduced a formal education system addressed to the elit while education of the average citizen was mainly informal, and based on apprenticeship. Eastern Region (Ghana)
The Eastern Region is located in the Eastern part of Ghana and is one of the sixteen administrative regions of Ghana. Eastern region is bordered to the east by the Lake Volta, to the north by Bono East Region and Ashanti region, to the west by Ashanti region, to the south by Central region and Greater Accra Region.
