Aki Karvonen
Aki Tapani Karvonen (born 31 August 1957 in Valtimo) is a Finland, Finnish former Cross-country skiing (sport), cross-country skier who competed during the 1980s. He won three medals at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo, with a silver in the 15 km, and two bronze medals in 50 km and the 4 × 10 km relay, respectively. Karvonen also won three medals at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, with two silver medals (30 km: 1987, 4 × 10 km relay: 1989) and one bronze (4 × 10 km relay: 1982, tied with East Germany). Blood Doping
Blood doping is a form of Doping in sport, doping in which the number of red blood cells in the bloodstream is boosted in order to enhance athletic performance. The 1982–83 FIS Cross-Country World Cup was the 2nd official World Cup season in cross-country skiing for men and ladies. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1989 took place 17–26 February 1989 in Lahti, Finland, for a record fifth time (1926, 1938, 1958, 1978). The women's 5 km was not held after being reintroduced in the previous championships. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1987 took place 11–21 February 1987 in Oberstdorf, West Germany. Following the domination of the skating technique at the previous championships, the International Ski Federation (FIS) introduced separate cross-country skiing races in the classical technique and the freestyle technique at these championships. The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 1982 took place on 19–28 February 1982 in Oslo, Norway at the Holmenkollen ski arena.
