Akhilesh Pratap Singh
Akhilesh Pratap Singh (born 21 May 1960) is an Indian politician and a member of the 16th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. He represented the Rudrapur constituency of Uttar Pradesh until 2017 and is a member and spokesperson for the Indian National Congress party. Early life and education Akhilesh Pratap Singh was born in Deoria district. He attended the University of Allahabad and attained Master of Arts degree. Captained the Allahabad University and Allahabad District Basketball Team, representing them in state and national level events. Political career Akhilesh Pratap Singh has been a MLA for one term. He represented the Rudrapur constituency and is a member of the Indian National Congress party. Posts held Personal life His brother KP Singh is a colonel in the Army Air Defence. Army Air Defence (India)
The Corps of Army Air Defence (abbreviated as AAD), is an active corps of the Indian Army and a major combat support arm tasked with air defence of the country from foreign threats. The AAD is responsible for the protection of Indian air space from enemy aircraft and missiles, especially below 5,000 feet. The history of the AAD dates back to 1939 during the times of the British Raj in India. The corps actively took part in the Second World War fighting on behalf of the British Empire. Post independence, the corps has participated in all the wars involving India, starting from the 1947 Indo-Pakistani War to the 1999 Kargil conflict. The corps enjoyed autonomous status from 1994, after the bifurcation of the Corps of Air Defence Artillery from the Army's Regiment of Artillery. 2021 Indian Air Force Mil Mi-17 Crash
On 8 December 2021, a Mil Mi-17V-5 transport helicopter operated by the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed between Coimbatore and Wellington in Tamil Nadu, after departing from Sulur Air Force Station. The helicopter was carrying Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat and 13 others, including his wife and staff. Thirteen people on board were killed in the immediate aftermath, and Group Captain Varun Singh died from his injuries at a hospital seven days later. Aircraft and crew The Russian-built Mil Mi-17 medium-lift helicopter was one of the first batch of 80 of its type built for the IAF under the terms of a 2008 contract. Delivered to the IAF in 2011 and inducted into service in 2012, the helicopter had flown over 26 hours without incident since its most recent servicing. The Indian Air Force (IAF) is the air arm of the Indian Armed Forces. Its complement of personnel and aircraft assets ranks third amongst the air forces of the world. Its primary mission is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during armed conflict. ''The New Indian Express'' is an Indian English-language broadsheet daily newspaper published by the Chennai-based Express Publications.
