Aka Høegh
Aka Høegh (b. 16 December 1947) is a Greenlandic artist. Born in Qullissat on Disko Island, she moved to Qaqortoq in her childhood, and has lived in southern Greenland ever since. As a painter, graphic artist, and sculptor, Høegh focuses on nationalistic expressionism, creating art which reflects local, traditional myths, and is steeped in heritage and local lore. She frequently incorporates legend, nature, and provincial mythos into her works, devising strong connections between her art and local tradition. During the 1970s, she was regularly cited as the main artist in establishing a Greenlandic artistic identity. In September 2013 she was honoured of Nersornaat order. Qullissat
Qullissat (old spelling: ''Qutdligssat'')''Nuussuaq'', Saga Map, Tage Schjøtt, 1992 is a former settlement in the Qeqertalik municipality, located on the north-east coast of Disko Island on the west coast of Greenland. It was a coal mining town founded to exploit the national resources of Disko Island. The mines operated for 48 years until 1972, when the economic base of the settlement collapsed, leading to its abandonment. History Qullissat was not a traditional Inuit settlement, but was founded in 1924 as a coal mining town. Iceland

Greenlandic Inuit People

Inuk Silis Høegh
Inuk Silis Høegh (born 1972 in Qaqortoq, Greenland, Kingdom of Denmark) is a Greenlandic artist and filmmaker. The son of artist Aka Høegh and photographer and film artist Ivars Silis, he grew up in an artistic environment, and his sister is Bolatta Silis Høegh, also an artist. Background and education Høegh received the Niels Wessel Bagges Grant in 2005, completing a Master of Fine Arts (MFA) from The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts (2010) and a Master of Arts in Film and TV Production from the University of Bristol (1997). Career Filmmaking Høegh's 2002 documentary "Eskimo Weekend" followed a Greenlandic rock band over a weekend, and has been credited with challenging stereotypes about Inuit. In 2014 Høegh released the documentary Sumé: Sound of a Revolution about the groundbreaking Greenlandic rock band Sumé.
