Giovanni D'Aiello
John of AjelloAlso spelled "Agello", in Italian ''Giovanni d'Aiello'' or ''Giovanni da Salerno''. His family was from Salerno, but the name "Ajello", which comes from Aiello del Sabato, is applied retrospectively. John's nephew Richard became the first family member to be count of Aiello. (died 4 February 1169) was the Bishop of Catania from November 1167 until his death. He was a brother of the chancellor Matthew of Ajello. Stephen Aiello (born April 30, 1983) is an American songwriter, musician, and record producer. He is best known for touring and recording with American rock band Thirty Seconds to Mars. He was one of the founding members of Monty Are I, a band he formed in 1998 with some friends. Aiello has also worked with artists such as Mumford & Sons, Cheyenne Jackson, Lana Del Rey, Junkie XL, Young Guns, Cobra Starship, Every Avenue, Starset, and The Knocks, among others. Piera Aiello (; born 2 July 1967) is an Italian police informant and politician known for her stand against the Mafia. She was elected to the Chamber of Deputies. In 2019 she was named as one of the BBC's 100 Women. Biography Anti-mafia testimony Aiello was born in Partanna, Sicily, in 1967. In 1985, whilst in her teens she was forced to marry the son of a mafia boss, Nicola Atria. Her father-in-law, Vito Atria was killed nine days after they married. She did not love her husband and took the pill to avoid giving birth to a child. Her husband found out and raped her. Her husband was killed in 1991 and she and her three-year-old daughter witnessed the killing. Nicholas of AjelloHe was not a native of Ajello (Calabria), but Salerno. His elder brother, Richard, received the county of Ajello from King Tancred and the name has been applied to the entire family. Matthew of Ajello ( it, Matteo d'Aiello) was a high-ranking member of the Norman court of the Kingdom of Sicily in the 12th century. His brother John was a bishop. Career He first appears as the notary of the Admiral Maio of Bari who drew up the Treaty of Benevento of 1156. He rose to prominence in the next reign, that of William II of Sicily, becoming first grand protonotary and then chancellor. Maio groomed Matthew to be his successor and, it was alleged, even used him to get permission from Pope Alexander III in Rome for Maio to succeed William I in 1159.
