Aiyura
Aiyura is the name of a valley located in the Eastern Highlands of Papua New Guinea. It is the home of the Aiyura Agricultural Research Station, which was operated originally as the "Highlands Agricultural Experiment Station, Aiyura" begun in 1936 by Mr. Bill Brechin, an Australian Agriculturist. In 1937 work was begun clearing the land for the airstrip which is now the home in Papua New Guinea of JAARS (the aviation wing of Wycliffe Bible Translators), Airstrip IATA code AYU known as Aiyura Airport. Aiyura played a role in World War II when the Aiyura Airstrip was bombed by the Japanese on June 15, 1943, with six bombers and six fighter aircraft. Aiyura contains a Coffee Research Institute, Aiyura National High School, The Aiyura International Primary School, a local national primary school called Professor Schindler's School and is the traditional home and battlegrounds of the Gadsup and Tairora people. Aiyura National High School
Aiyura National High School is one of six government-run national high schools in Papua New Guinea (PNG), now known as "schools of excellence". Situated in the Eastern Highlands Province, it is a boarding school for Grades 11 and 12, and its students come from all over PNG. Description Aiyura National High School was established in 1976, a year after PNG achieved independence. The aim of having national schools that would draw students from all over the country was to develop a concept of national unity in a culturally diverse society. The school is situated in the Aiyura valley, which is often known as "windy valley". Ukarumpa
Ukarumpa is an intentional international community that is the main centre for SIL-PNG, located in the Eastern Highlands Province of Papua New Guinea. It lies approximately by road from Kainantu in the Aiyura Valley. The population consists of a variety of paid staff and volunteer staff who live nearby. The centre was established in 1957. Valley
A valley is an elongated low area often running between hills or mountains, which will typically contain a river or stream running from one end to the other. Founded in 1948 as Jungle Aviation and Radio Service by William Cameron Townsend, JAARS is a world-wide, non-profit, mission aviation and support organization that reduces barriers and eases burdens with a primary focus on Bible translation support operations.
