Airports In South Africa
This is a list of airports in South Africa, grouped by type and sorted by location. Most of the largest airports are owned by the Airports Company of South Africa these include all the international airports except for Lanseria International Airport which is privately owned. Most other public airports are owned by local municipalities although there are also a significant number of privately owned airports. Some South African Air Force bases share the airfields of public airports. Limpopo
Limpopo () is the northernmost Provinces of South Africa, province of South Africa. It is named after the Limpopo River, which forms the province's western and northern borders. The term Limpopo is derived from Rivombo (Livombo/Lebombo), a group of Tsonga language, Tsonga settlers led by Hosi Rivombo who settled in the mountainous vicinity and named the area after their leader. The Lebombo mountains are also named after them. The river has been called the Vhembe by local Venda communities of the area. The capital and largest city in the province is Polokwane, while the provincial legislature is situated in Lebowakgomo. Alldays, Limpopo
Alldays is a small town in the Limpopo province of South Africa that serves a large area of private game and hunting farms. It has a population of 2,987. The Venetia Diamond Mine is situated close to Alldays, located within the 360 square kilometre Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve. It is one of De Beers’ six remaining diamond mines in South Africa and the only major diamond mine to be developed in the country during the past 25 years. Citrus farming on the banks of the Limpopo River is an important economic activity in the district. The area of is known for its arid bushveld and Mopane bush. Several large game farms are located around Alldays, many of which are known as trophy hunting destinations. The hunting practices carried out at an Alldays game farm sparked significant public outcry in September 2015; however, the Limpopo environmental department found the farm to be compliant with South African hunting legislation. Alkantpan Airport
Copperton was a mining town in the central Karoo region of South Africa. As a copper and zinc-mining area, Copperton saw its heyday between 1970 and the end of the 20th century, when it housed about 3,000 workers and their families; amenities included a school and recreation facilities, including a golf course. Aliwal North
Maletswai (previously Aliwal North) is a town in central South Africa on the banks of the Orange River, Eastern Cape Province. It is a medium-sized commercial centre in the northernmost part of the Eastern Cape. The Dutch Reformed Church was built in 1855. History One of the first white settlers in the area, Pieter Jacobus de Wet, built a house at the nearby Buffelsvlei around 1828. Sir Harry Smith, Governor of the Cape Colony from 1847 to 1852, formally founded the small town of Aliwal North in the Cape Province of South Africa in 1850. He named the town "Aliwal North" in memory of his victory over the Sikhs at the Battle of Aliwal during the First Sikh War in India in 1846.
