Air Jordan is a line of basketball and sportswear shoes produced by Nike, Inc. Related apparel and accessories are marketed under Jordan Brand. The first Air Jordan shoe was produced for basketball player Michael Jordan during his time with the Chicago Bulls on November 17, 1984, and released to the public on April 1, 1985. The shoes were designed for Nike by Peter Moore, Tinker Hatfield, and Bruce Kilgore. The Jordan Logo, known as the " Jumpman", originated from a photograph by Jacobus Rentmeester, taken before Jordan played for Team USA in the 1984 Summer Olympics. David Joel Stern (September 22, 1942 – January 1, 2020) was an American lawyer and business executive who was the commissioner of the National Basketball Association (NBA) from 1984 to 2014. Stern oversaw NBA basketball's growth into one of the world's most popular sports during the 1990s and 2000s. Nike Air Ship is a basketball shoe released by Nike in 1984. The shoe is notable for being the first sneaker to ever be worn by Michael Jordan as part of his contract with Nike. The shoe has since been re-introduced by Nike as part of the Air Jordan line as the Jordan Air Ship. Overview The shoes were designed by Bruce Kilgore and his next design following the Nike Air Force 1. Nike wanted the Air Ship to be a successor to the Air Force 1 and also be a team shoe that was suitable for all players. Unlike the Air Force 1, the shoe did not feature a velcro strap around the top of the shoe. Jacobus Willem Rentmeester (born 28 February 1936), nicknamed "Co" or "Ko", is a Dutch rower. He later became a photojournalist and covered the Vietnam War among other newsworthy events. Life and career Rentmeester was born in 1936 in Amsterdam. He competed with Peter Bakker in double scull and won bronze at the 1959 European Rowing Championships in Mâcon, France.
